More Pol Talk

Lazing around this Sunday and Ed had CNN on and I caught a few minutes of the ending of State of the Union.

I was struck by how insular the panel was -- all Republicans debating what went wrong. So I found the program's Facebook page and the following is what I wrote them:

I only caught a few remarks at the end of your program but what I heard convinces me that Republicans talking to Republicans about Republican issues leads to reaffirming each other that they just couldn't get their "truth" out. They got it out. The country that voted them out hated it. I, a Florida senior, well-to-do and willing to pay more taxes, hated it. I didn't fight for reproductive freedom and equal pay in the 50s and 60s to watch a bunch of narrow-minded neanderthals in thrall to religious positions that not everyone holds roll us back to the dark ages.

A pact was made with the religious right in order to get their support and votes and now they are the tail wagging the dog. How is that working out for you? They don't need repackaging -- they need a new product. A modern one. I don't care how many Hispanics they think are pro-life -- the new ones, the young female ones, want to control their bodies. You think that, magically, women want to be dominated by religious views that do not respect them? Methinks not.

Calling Mitt Romney "remarkable" is also astonishing. A remarkable weather vane, yes. Someone who was willing to say anything and switch positions almost hourly, yes. Someone who is so elitist that he thought he was owed the Presidency because it was the next logical step to enhance his view of himself. King and Queen Romney. I don't care how "wunnerful wunnerful" he is to his family and friends and Bain associates. He is poison to the country.

When are the Republicans going to get it that Reagonomics did not work, that wealth does not trickle down and that, talk about deadbeats, the wealthiest Americans are leaving the cost of keeping America strong and safe and repaired is being paid for by the 99 percent. It's like asking your maid to pay for maintenance on your condo.

Throw out the Tea Party, throw out Grover Norquist, throw out Karl Rove, throw out Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Mitch McConnell. And you just might have a chance to rebuild the pathetic remnants of the Party that was once a contender.

To show you how delusional Republicans can be, I heard talk of a Paul Ryan candidacy in 2016. He has as much chance as Rick Sanctimoron. Sheesh. The Republicans still don't get it.

That's all she wrote.

Power to you, babe!! That was outstanding and said it all. I, too, have
heard that Ryan is already running for the presidency. Bad cess to him!

I've exchanged e mails with various journalists who I have tilted at. One, conceding a point said, let's call a truce. I don't remember who now. I don't expect to hear from any of these people. I am unsung.

I would love to see the Republicans loosen up on their polemic stance in hopes of wooing some of the independent voters who are not so conservative. Not saying I would jump over there, but I'd like to see a spirit of cooperation in our government.

Yes, we don't need to be polarized. The Republicans wooed the far right because they detected a vast, untapped resource. I don't think they are too happy about that now.
