October 9, 2018 - Lost Blog Friends
I was looking through old posts and my friends list and for quite a while have wondered what happened to some people who no longer write. The info on the left says “last on 30 days ago†but that never changes, no matter how many months or years have gone by. So beabea hasn’t been on in years, ditto hayduke, and ditto dakmom, although I do know how to reach her and their whole family is on Facebook. She also used the handle Island Girl. They lived across the street from me and we walked together every morning. They are now somewhere in the Midwest. I can’t keep track because they move around in their 5th wheel, working for BP oil, both she and husband, as pipeline inspectors. They were doing quite well running a dirt-grading business until the bust in 2009. Then they couldn’t get contracts because the big outfits were pushing them out.
Anyway, I wonder about what happened to the others – last post, normal, no indication of disaster, and then nothing. Are these people okay? I liked them and feel that they may have run into problems and wish they had shared because our group is a caring one and you have all been very supportive during stressful times.
When I ask for “all postsâ€, the list does not include dates, although if you open the post, there is a date. So I have decided to date each title myself.
I plan to print each post out, and that will take forever. There are over 1,000. Sheesh. I will use Ed’s computer because my printer, just gotten, is a dumb one that only holds about 10 sheets. I am used to very sophisticated business printers that will make coffee if you threaten them. When I used Ed’s printer on a remote system, it was always going offline. That was a major irritation. When all is done, I’ll submit the result as a novel. A deranged novel.
I wonder if there could be an automatic system when, if a blogger is in the wind for a lengthy period, a query could be sent to their e mail so that we can know if something has happened to them. If someone has died, I would assume the family would notify people on their e mail list. I know that’s how I would handle it. The response would go to Eddie, who could then inform us. Maybe I’m asking for too much?
Anyway, this whole introspection started because I have forgotten when certain important events took place and I know I wrote about them and my fanciful titles aren’t always descriptive.
xx, Teal
