Yes, the cultural shift began when Obama was elected. By some miracle sane people voted for a black man. That brought out all the suppressed bigotry that had not been fashinble. Suddenly it was fashionable again. GW Bush, who encouraged the evangelicals because he needed votes he couldn't get any other way, was responsble for the Tea Party, aided by big money from the Koch brothers. Suddenly the religious right was the only thing that mattered and women were trampled underneath their eager little feet. I recently got an e mail from Ben Carson -- who knows how I got on his list. See my next post: I am posting my reply to him, that I put on his Facebook page, because his e mail response was blocked.

That would be an incredible narrative. But I'm with Jeri. Do what feels right to you.

Our flat had a back porch and courtyard, so we shook rugs out on the porch. But mop water goes in the toilet. In Manhattan and later in Queens,no back porch. But I never thought much about it. Have always, till now, lived in the city, always loved it. Still do. Love this area, but miss the vitality of New York, the ever-changing scene, the fun of the people.

Rinny has really taken over, hasn't he. He's a beautiful kitty.

I remember childhood Sunday dinners with family friends of my parents from Greece and sometimes cousins. Jeri, regarding memory, I have just finished a book: Sublminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior by Leonard Mlodinow (maladinov). It is a bit scholarly but also has humor in it. And it shows how unreliable memory can be. I got it at B&N a few days ago on the discount table.

yes, I like the tap too. I bought a kitchen facuet with a high arch to put in our bathroom so i can wash my hair in the sink if I care too. It's nice, also, for face washing so you can stick your face under it. Your new bathroom looks great. Enjoy!

They really lived the early American life. My mom, living in
a Chicago flat, made soap, repaired electrical wiring, made all of our clothes ... I think she might have liked being on a farm. They were self-reliant.

The one time I tried to grow tomatoes, the plant died within weeks of my ministrations. A friend gave me the plant, I tended it, I watched it, I agonized, it died. Tomatoes are my all time favorite veggie. I envy you your skills.

Happy to hear Ted is getting better care. What a relief to have a doctor you can trust, one who listens.

Sorry about the rattlers ... your marmot is adorable. Do you put food out for him? Yes, think about raising your rates. And you could give your regulars a grace period before charging them more in a future year.

This is heartbreaking. You are in my thoughts. What a beautiful looking fellow.

Really pleased that it is working for you and I am truly disappointed that Ted can't be helped. Ed went to a meeting in Orlando and I gave him a supply for 4 days and he started taking it. He said that he stopped being short of breath which was a problem after his stent surgery. Before I gave it to Ed I checked with his doctors and they said it was okay.

Who would have thought the tiny hummingbird could put away such large amounts of sugar? drmaus has a great idea. In NY, we had mice in the loft and Jay set traps and caught them. He put up a score sheet, updating from time to time. At one point, it said "Stantons 7 -- Mice -- 0. The meter reader kept staring at it as he chatted with Jay one morning. It was hilarious. Your spreadsheet project sounds really complex (and daunting). Good luck with it. I'll try the corn recipe. I was using Green Giant canned corn for Ed, but fresh corn would be better.
