Red Cabin Update

After a lot of delay, we finally have the plan for the red cabin elevation and renovation project.

The front of it will be elevated four feet above dirt level, and the lot will slope up towards the back so the back door lets out onto dirt. I was afraid the whole thing was going to look like it was perched on a the four-foot foundation, and every door was going to require a staircase, and we'd be wanting to put a big deck around the house so we could spend time outdoors without going up and down steps.

Like this.

Eventually we will put a larger front porch on it, but as designed it will be the same size as the old porch so we can sit in lounge chairs on either side of the door and watch the hummingbirds.

Is the red cabin the one where you live when you are in the Canyon?

No, we have a real house nearby. When you come off the highway, it is a steep slope down to the level of the river, and once down to the flat part, the first thing you see on the right is the red cabin. Our house is further: along the private road, across the bridge over the river. Next to us is the Brown Palace, our guest cabin.

But! But! You didn't give the most important information--when will it be ready? In time for me to celebrate my 20th Leap Year birthday??? On my gift list is a week to 10 days gift certificate for the red cabin!!

At this time, the plan is to get the basic structure up and finish the inside at some later date. The best part will be the front porch, and that was always the best part. You could get a coupon for sitting on the porch for your birthday.

I wish I could say all systems are a go, it's a slow process.

Such a good plan. Now I am wondering how you will configure the indoor
space.

For now we're not finishing it inside - no plumbing or electric or windows for the addition. It will be storage until the next generation decides what they want to do.
