Did You Know Any of This?

I was dismayed to read Jon Dude’s post on Facebook that he will not vote at all or vote for the green candidate, in his anger that Bernie is not the candidate. Well, much as I have come to dislike Bernie Sanders, I had no doubt that I would vote for him if he had succeeded in getting the nomination. My reason: My wish list doesn't matter -- holding my breath till I turn blue solves nothing. I didn’t start out with dislike. I listened to Bernie's message. But I did not ever believe he had the ability to fix the problems he identified because his promises depended on many factors that were not solely in the power of the presidency and depended in large part on cooperation from the Congress. This congress, chiefly Republicans but also Democrats who have endured Bernie’s disdain for most of his political life, was a congress he, as president, would have to persuade. He has earned my distrust because he is now withholding his full endorsement, saying he will vote for Hillary because it is important to defeat Trump. This cup half full crap does not help her. His behavior muddies the waters and ignores the reality.

Those of you who are his strong supporters should consider how you would feel if the situation was reversed and Hillary was grandstanding her way to the convention with a list of demands or else (I’ll tell my followers not to support you). I sense you’d want her to suck it up, get with the program, do her best, Well, she’s been there, done that, sublimated her needs, worked hard to elect President Obama, and gets no points for it. That was truly grace under pressure, it was an unbelievable commitment in the face of crushing disappointment, and she was a major factor in swaying her supporters to vote for Obama. It was, in sum, a supreme example of a class act. Would that Bernie had it in him to do the same.

The bottom line is Hillary didn’t swindle her way to the nomination with super delegates, as Bernie suggested was happening. She won with three millions more votes and non super delegates. In the final count, she did not need the super delegates. She won the race fair and square. She also won without getting hysterical (Bernie’s response to a remark reported to him by his staff that she did not make and didn’t check it and ran off at the mouth on camera and didn’t fire the staffers who lied to him).

There is a latent fear of women in power that is, I firmly believe, at work in the electorate against any woman this close to a powerful job, the most powerful in the world. She is being held to a standard no male candidate has ever had to endure. The fact that she will not be charged with wrong-doing for her e mail indiscretions is now being seen as “the fix was in”. But Director Comey of the FBI was following the rule of law. Hillary should not have to be saddled with the negatives of her husband. No one would suggest that a male candidate was being puppeteered by his wife (except of course, what Nancy Reagan doing when Ronnie was losing his abilities).

Hillary is a fiercely independent thinker and was a force as a young college woman before she met Bill. Read her Wiki bio. Many of the e mails she is accused of handling badly were classified retroactively. She is now being demonized for not having ESP. In any case, she has proven time and again that she learns from her mistakes. That is a quality that is invaluable.

Also, why are people so ready to believe all the negatives manufactured by the extreme right when they believe nothing else from this source? Kevin McCarthy, Republican leader of the House, told Sean Hannity that the Benghazi investigation was meant to discredit her. He crowed about her poll numbers dropping. Google this: McCarthy on Sean Hannity. Or log on to this link:
Benghazi By The Numbers – Benghazi Research Center benghazicommittee.com/benghazi-by-the-numbers/
The newest committee has already cost taxpayers more than $6.8 million to date, at a rate of 8,000 per day, while the committee chairman presents false information to the press. BENGHAZI INVESTIGATIONS BY THE NUMBERS: A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMMITTEE TO DESTROY HILLARY CLINTON.

I maintain it is a latent inner fear of a woman as a leader. Believing these negatives justifies the bias many feel and do not recognize in themselves.
And for women who are on the “I don’t trust her” bandwagon, you are shooting yourselves in the foot.

Also, please do read my previous post – “Everyone should read this” which contains an incredibly revealing article that appeared in Time Magazine about how differently we perceive competence and ability based on gender.

Sincerely, Teal

Teal, my daughter was in army intelligence and if she had mishandled classified material, she would have been courtmartialed. I don't like the
Clinton's sense of entitlement. However, we are at the point of voting for the greater good of the country and I will vote for HRC, not because she is
a woman..gender doesn't matter to me, but because we must defeat
Donald Trump. I thoroughly understand Jon
and his view because my daughter shares it and I can not change her
mind.

Well I hope Jon and your daughter understand they are enableing Trump when they stand for a principle that cannot be supported in the current election. Furthermore, did you hear the senator who said that when anyone in Congress is elected they automatically get classified clearance and that mis-use of e mail privilege and confidentiality is rampant? Hillary has been singled out. This is standard for the right-wing attacks on her. Also, some of the emails that were questioned were classified retroactively. So she is also guilty of not having esp. Really? As for entitlement, George W. Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction border on treason. Nothing happened to him. I guess he's special. The training for those in the criminal intelligence sector is a lot different than growing up as a lawyer and political activist. We're playing catch up. Also, Hillary is not a techie and probably did not understand the risks. One thing is certain: she learns from her mistakes. And there was no intent, and there was precedent (the magic bullet in law) for not charging her. Do you really think we would have been served if she had been charged? Good grief, where is everyone's common sense. Purism has no place in politics.

You said that I was angered because Sanders did not win the nomination. This is patently untrue. I will not vote for either party's nominee. My disgust with Drunpf is apparent, and my distaste for Hillary is based on her stupidity for using private email containing classified material. Anyone who ever worked in a government position should know better. Apparently she does not. I no longer trust her judgement.

not voting solves nothing. If you don't want Trump, the onl smart thing to do is support Hillary. You don't trust her based on a bias that you don't recognize, and I don't mean the gender issue. You want perfection in our legislators and candidates. The human condition does not produce perfection. There is no such a thing as a perfect human being and that includes Bernie Sanders. I'll bet anything that he has areas of omission that are just as daunting as anything you don't like about Hillary. He just hasn't bee under the same microscope. Good thing too, because he doesn't have the strength to withstand such sscrutiny.

The wealthy are rarely held accountable... it's like trying to indict a cop... gives meaning to the term "criminal" justice system. Running her instead of Bernie is definitely a mistake, but letting Trump have an opportunity to contaminate the Supreme Court would be a bigger mistake.

Bernie couldn't do the job. I have been following Hillary's career since the early 90s. She is more qualified than Bernie. She didn't start out with money. She was a young Republican who left the party because she wanted to help poor people. Read her wiki bio. Bernie has never had to endure the microscope that has been trained on Hillary since she was first lady. He's had a free ride. What I saw of his responses to negatives was not encouraging. He doesn't have her strength.

thanks for your viewpoint ... The dye is cast. We either elect Hillary or endure Trump, who would be a disaster. I think most of on this blog would agree on that. The Republicans were so outraged that the FBI decided not to pursue charges that they launched an investigation into the FBI director. I listened to most of it this morning. Director Comey is a man with apparently an excellent reputation. I don't think they'll get anywhere with it.

But not to vote, or to write in Bernie, or to vote for another 3rd party name on the ballot is a vote for Trump. The voter makes his point, siphons votes away from the only person who can succeed, and gives it to her opponent, a certified lunatic. That's self dest
ruction.

I respect your opinion on Hillary but if you're concerned that right-wing arguments against her have any effect on Bernie supporters, you're probably mistaken. Emails, Benghazi -- these issues are being kept alive by the GOP and repeated amongst the right for their own consumption. I personally hardly care about those things and think they've been blown hugely out of proportion. Bush had a bigger email scandal at a crucial point, and so many others recently too. All politicians seem to screw up when it comes to email.

It’s noticeable that the longer Bernie waits, the fewer supporters he might be able to deliver. It’s a gamble for him. I mean, look at it, Jondude is making up his own mind about it; others too.

I would hope everyone votes. If the popular vote weren’t so powerful, the GOP would long ago have tossed Trump out of their party and let him get nowhere near the nomination, since he does not represent their dearest right-wing platform elements (financial). But the GOP feels the need to preserve the fiction (or maybe not fiction, after all) that popular votes indicate the will of the people and must be followed. If they don’t, all those people might just start a new party.
