We were on auto pay with our cell phone account on Verizon. Ed took it off. I put it back on. Gave them a different credit card number. Called them to find out why our September bill was $2 and change more than our October bill and they had put us on their loyalty plan for being with them a while and for paying without problems and for being old. (I'd rather stay young without the discount.)
Then the rep said that we could get a $10 monthly discount if we put our auto pay on a debit card. She added that some people don’t like that and they wanted to accommodate our “comfort zoneâ€. So I informed her my husband didn’t HAVE a comfort zone.
I told her I would run the debit card thing past Ed. So I did. And what he told me made sense and we aren’t going for the debit card option. Banks don’t like to have auto pay on credit cards because they get stuck if your balance drops. With a debit card, they FREEZE $200 of your funds to be tapped if your balance gets low and you have overcharged on your debit card. And that sucks. As I left the den where Ed was lounging on his new cream-colored leather, handy, dandy, expensive recliner listening to old, I mean old, opera recordings, I said, “You don’t have to look so sour about it it.†And he said, “I am not sour,†and I said, “you’re not looking at your face.†So the curmudgeon smiled to take the sting out of things.
