Vacant and Shiftless

The Greene County Herald, a local newspaper, printed essays written by elementary school age kids, titled "My Favorite Bus Driver." This one by 4th grader McKaylee was particularly cute:

"Lots of people have bus drivers. The driver I like is Mr. Brewer. What a joker he is! "Oh, look, the bus is here--time to go to school!" One thing I like about him is he sets at my house if I'm running late for about half a minute. Sometimes when we get off he gives us candy. When i step foot onto the bus I see a big smile on his face. He's anxious to see me. One morning I brought him some coffee from Hunkey Dorey. When I cross the road to Hunkey Dorey he looks out for me.

He doesn't tell the best jokes while driving. He tells jokes when we get on. When he's sleepy he does not tell the best jokes. His mind goes vacant and shiftless."

Also in that same edition was the Jail Docket. Here's a few, with some interesting addresses:

Andy----- of Green Eddie Road, Lucedale taken into custody and ordered to pay fines.

Gary-------of Hundred Acre Road was arrested and charged with driving with license suspended and no insurance.

(Here's the best one) Benjamin-----of Bumpy Dirty Road, Clinton, arrested and charged with possession of beer, littering, and improper equipment.

You just won't see news like that in big city papers!susil

Nooo! Bumpy Dirt Road! Even Las Vegas doesn't have that street name yet. Sounds like the road didn't have a name so the perp just made that up. Pothole Court, Wheel Ruts Lane, Washboard Avenue, Roadkill Street.

Sometimes truth is stranger...and more entertaining...than fiction.

Hi; I always read the jail dockets to check out the funny names and addresses and to see if I know any of them!

It is a change to have a newspaper which brightens the reader instead of doom & gloom

Hi breze; This paper prints newborn pics, memorial pics and poems for the deceased, it's fun to read it.

What a sharp kid -- vacant and shiftless. How did they know his equipment was improper. Did they undress him? (Dirty shiftless mind here.)

Hi teal; that's what got me--the child writes this guy driving sleepy and going vacant and shiftless--and sending the kid across the road to get coffee for him. (I bet his equipment ain't proper!)

It's that Benjamin with the improper equipment that scares me!

Hi great; Yeah, I want to know about his equipment!

Hi she; Yep, Bumpy DIRTY Road--maybe there was a lot of littering around there!

Possession of beer, littering, and improper equipment should be requirements on Bumpy Dirty Road.
comment by jjoohhnn on Nov 8, 2010 10:14 AM ()
Hi jj; That gave me a good laugh--The name of the road fits the crime..
