We had two weather fronts come through, one after another, bringing half a foot of rain, hail, etc. with the last one. So last Saturday afternoon during the deluge I was dismayed to see water dripping down on the stove. The exhaust vent that goes up through the roof had a leak around it on the roof. I spread papers and pots under the leaks to catch the rain.
I got my cousin to come over after the rain stopped and go up on the roof to look. As a temporary fix, he put a plastic bag over the vent, but next day it rained buckets again, and the leaks were worse than ever.
I called cuz again, and soon as the front passed and the roof dried, he went up and spread tar all around the exhaust vent and hopefully sealed up any entryway to water. But when it rains again, I'll be looking and watching to make sure it's sealed for good.
Cuz did his good deed while I was gone from home, and left a note on the back door reading "Tarred but not feathered," to let me know he had been there.
With all the rain, overnight the grass transformed from sere dead brown to flourishing green, and I saw the first violet blooming in the yard. How wonderful to see signs of springtime!
