Tarred But Not Feathered

We had two weather fronts come through, one after another, bringing half a foot of rain, hail, etc. with the last one. So last Saturday afternoon during the deluge I was dismayed to see water dripping down on the stove. The exhaust vent that goes up through the roof had a leak around it on the roof. I spread papers and pots under the leaks to catch the rain.
I got my cousin to come over after the rain stopped and go up on the roof to look. As a temporary fix, he put a plastic bag over the vent, but next day it rained buckets again, and the leaks were worse than ever.

I called cuz again, and soon as the front passed and the roof dried, he went up and spread tar all around the exhaust vent and hopefully sealed up any entryway to water. But when it rains again, I'll be looking and watching to make sure it's sealed for good.

Cuz did his good deed while I was gone from home, and left a note on the back door reading "Tarred but not feathered," to let me know he had been there.

With all the rain, overnight the grass transformed from sere dead brown to flourishing green, and I saw the first violet blooming in the yard. How wonderful to see signs of springtime!

Always welcome to see those first signs of Spring. Here's hoping the tar does the job.

Hi time; Only the next rain will tell if the leak is fixed for good--fingers crossed on that.
Lots of Spring flowers lately, the redbud, the Japanese magnolia, jonquils and daffodils, the Bradford pear trees all blooming like crazy! Yea!

omg! I forgot about the clocks. I wish they would quit messing with time. It is a sure sign of spring though.

Hi jeri; yep I forgot about the spring forward time change too, and I meant to reset all the clocks before I went to bed--did I? Nooooo.
For Pete's sake leave it alone!

The only thing worse than water leaks is fire. Send some of that "Spring" north. I'm sick of brown and gray (with occasional white).

sol; I know how you feel--I was ever so happy to see to Earth rebound and start blooming again! And we've had really nice temperatures in the high 60's and 70's. Nice!

It's great to have a cousin who helps. Glad he could stop the leak. Your experience reminded me of leaks in New York and I wrote about it. xx, T

Hi teal; I felt like pore white trash with pots and pans sitting under the stove hood catching the waterfalls of rain. Don't like that at all!

I hate leaks. They can cause so much damage. I hope yours is fixed.

Hi nittin; It's supposed to rain again today, and I'm gonna be watching for a leak for sure.

I hear a few birds signing away today. I'm singing for spring with them!

Hi marta; our poor birds have been rousted first by forest fires, then by high winds, then by two deluges. I'm so happy when I hear them, knowing a few survived.
