Oprah's Sister

Hello everybody! Haven't turned computer on in a while--holing up in freezing weather and trying to stay warm is about it, nothing to say. The news is always so bad and depressing I don't watch it much anymore--like an ostrich with its head in the sand, but whatever. Hibernating away, watching inane TV.

Oprah Winfrey has been in the news with a shocking revelation. She has a sister she never knew existed. The information came to her in a most unexpected way. She devoted an entire hour of her program detailing it. Her mother Vernita had a daughter she gave up at birth. This daughter named Patricia put the clues together and realized O was her sister. O and Patricia met for the first time last T'giving.

Oprah had her sister and mother together, and the mother looked very uncomfortable about it and didn't look Patricia in the eye. It was a big family secret and no one had known about it.
Oprah said every member of her family had used her name to make money--her sister who died of drugs had sold a story to a tabloid about Oprah having a baby when she was a teenager. Her brother died of AIDS had sold a story too. Even her mother and father had used her--only this new sister Patricia hasn't used her to make money. This sister seems so likeable and friendly and nice, hopefully she won't try to make money off Oprah.

Good grief. What else is Oprah gonna expose?

It's like a Grimm's fairy tale about the bad sister and the good sister, and how the good sister handles it just right so she is rewarded and the bad sister falls into the abyss. I'm sure Oprah will change her life, like hitting the lottery, in a good way. And imagine finding a nice sibling who might become a good friend over time because even Oprah with her millions probably wished for that. Darn! Now I wish an unknown sister of mine would come out of nowhere and be my friend. This all sounds cynical, but I don't mean it to be.

This new sister Patricia, coincidentally the same name of her deceased sister, seems like a really nice person. Yep I kinda wish I had an unknown sister who'd show up and be a nice friendly sort.
PS Oprah has irritated jme a lot lately--she bought the Direct TV channel 279, which used to be the Discovery Health Channel where I watched Dr. G. Medical examiner and other shows. No more--now she has the entire channel to herself, and it's so ego driven it's Oprah all the time. Pew!

I couldn't resist and watched the show. I like mysteries. This was a good one.

I didn't watch the show, but read some news reports about Oprah's newly found sister, who seems like a class act. I'm happy for both of them and wish them a positive sustained relationship. I'll bet Oprah's mother was uncomfortable, and I'm surprised a bit that she would agree to be on the show. But honestly, as much as she might have not wanted this information to become public, we're talking about Oprah, a media queen. Hard to keep a secret these days the way our the world is so interconnected and information is available if one is willing to keep digging and putting the pieces together.

Hi marta; the new sister seems very nice indeed.
The tabloids say that Oprah kinda forced her mother to do the show hecause she thought it'd do her mother good to "face up to the truth." I can't help thinking there was some arm twisting involved in it.
O said she wanted to be the one to make the new sister public before anyone else (family) could sell a shocker of a story to the tabloids.

Amen to staying inside. I have been doing a lot of reading and a little writing while staying warm. Be glad when the weather breaks so we can get a little fresh air.

Hi larry; all you can do is wait it out and keep saying "Spring will come!"

I used to think my family would never shatter, that we would never use each other. Took my b.i.l. to change all that. Interesting how a toxic presence can poison an atmosphere.
