Picture a cold bright sunny afternoon, sitting in the wheelchair out on Zee's lovely back porch, enjoying the sunlight. She comes out and says How about a ride the sunshine? Okay I say, not knowing she'd knocked back a couple of cocktails.
So we take off, or rather she takes me off in the w/c, down her driveway and onto the road in front of her house. I was holding the leash of their beloved schnauzer KoKo--he was supposed to walk in front of us. Pretty soon it was like Laurel and Hardy--KoKo's leash got wrapped around the wheels of the w/c , got that untangled, then he managed to wriggle the leash off.
Then we were on an incline that led to a steep dropoff. Zee's hat she was wearing blew off and the wind tumbled it across the road. She ran after it and the w/c rumbled toward the precipice without her at the wheel, so to speak. I put the brakes on, she got her hat and we went on with several other near misses. Up inclines, down inclines it was precariously funny. I lost a shoe and my fot dragged on the ground for a while. I lost one shoe entirely.
KoKo was looking pooped so I picked him up and he clung to me for dear life--and that's how we went through their fancy neighborhood. It is funny now, but that fun house ride will till be the last for a few days.
