Success 20081115

I loaded some books on the PDA too. In the one I was reading, one of the characters was describing another one, talking about how that guy didn't fit in with his blue-collar family growing up and went on to become a successful businessman. That's kind of what happened with me. I didn't fit in and went on to college. I didn't become successful though. I've always either been in school or working, but haven't done that out of a drive for what I wanted to do, but what I should do, except for occasional art classes and a few others. Anyway, aside from my maternal uncle, my siblings and I were the first to go to college. My brother fit in more, but went his own way too.

I guess it depends on how you describe success, eh?

Interesting. All through school they push University as Your Ultimate Goal. I rebelled, and went to a technical institute instead. People were talking behind my back, and I caught wind of some of it. Funny how it turned out. I was out of school and WORKING in 2 years (including a 4 month well-paid work co-op). The people who went to University were there for 4 years, then went to the SAME technical institute that I did to get "real world" training.

there are many levels of success, success in business, success as a family person, etc. I think you are quite successful in certain aspects of your life. in my opinion, a job is what puts food on the table, not what defines me as a person.

this reminds me of myself...I'm also the only one who went to college and also did most everything because it was the right thing, but certainly not what I wanted to do

My younger brother and I were the only ones that went to college in our family. My other two sisters didn't nor my older brother. Neither did either of my parents. From an income and career standpoint, it has benefited he and I. I have never found my life's calling though...at least not yet.
