Dentist 20081126

I had a dentist appointment this morning. I asked the hygienist for some clarification about the osteoporosis related my issues (gum disease, etc.) The reason for the clarification was that I asked the dentist about it last time I was there and he denied there was a connection between my mouth problems and osteo. I thought that was weird because the materials I have been reading say 2+2=4. She said yes and included that she sees thinning on my dental x-rays.

Opinion of the dentist went down a few notches.

I asked her about the future of my teeth. She said that as the bone density decreases, there will be less support for the teeth and some teeth loss may occur. She was hopeful that since we know there is a problem, we can take actions to try to avoid the consequences. It still was not a fun discussion.

No, it isn't. And I'm sorry.I was thinking of when my granny used to take her false teeth out and smoke and talk and how my sister and I used to roar with laughter.

Couldn't you have fake teeth if your real ones fell out, though? And then you could take them out and talk without them and that might be kinda fun. Well, fun for everyone watching, anyway.

Sorry...I don't have any uplifting comments for you today. That just plain sucks a**.

Good thing your hygienist is smarter than the dentist. I had a nurse who was way smarter than the doctor she worked for by catching my walking pneumonia ... sometimes they just don't get the credit they deserve. Hope the hygienist had some good advice on steps to take to keep your teeth.

I can imagine it would be a rough situation for you. I had not even thought about how that would affect your teeth. The possibility makes sense, though. Hopefully, they can find a way to smooth the troubles over.
