Body Awareness 20090110

Back when I was doing yoga regularly, one of the concepts talked about classes and in the books was being aware of what is going on in throughout the body during the poses. To feel the process.

Now that I have not been doing yoga and starting to lift weights, I notice different things. In yoga body parts had various amounts of tension/relaxation in them and occupied space. In weight lifting, it's more of an adrenalin feeling, with muscles in some stage of being pumped up and blood rushing through them. Much different intensity. I don't know if I like doing it because it's new and I'm in a honeymoon phase. Perhaps the motivation is primarily the goal of trying to improve my strength and bones.

I won't know about the latter for another six months, when I get a repeat bone scan. If anything is going to make it difference it's increased Ca and vit D along with weight-bearing exercise and weight training. I don't know what else to do. The post-mission training that the astronauts do doesn't help them (restore their bone density after long space missions), so I'm doubtful that anything can be done.

That's an interesting observation between yoga and weight lifting. I borrowed a yoga DVD from a friend, but so far have only done it once. I really have to get my butt out of bed earlier so I have time to do it first thing in the morning.

Weights are said to be very good for you, if not for muscle building, bone strength. Stick with it.

When you don't know what to do, it's usually a good idea to just keep doing what you're doing...or do nothing at all.

Ever hear that line about fishermen repairing the lines when they can't go out to sea? Sometimes that's all you've got.

p.s. Does hauling Michael's almost thirty pound body around all the time count as weigh bearing?

I believe that all your efforts are gonna yield results. We have to have HOPE.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to try and improve the situation.
Thanks for the little bit of insight into yoga.

Hope that your not doing heavy lifting there.
You get the same satisfaction on the light weight.
Should continued with Yoga.Maybe nothing can be done but you want to keep the bones strong what you have.

you make me want to go back to weight lifting. I really enjoyed the almost immediate results you could see. Although you are doing for bone strength. What about the different drugs they have out for osteo? like the one sally fields advertises? I think it that one it claims to not only slow the bone loss to help get bone density back.
