Balanced Comments 20081028

Different people have different blogging styles and different approaches to commenting. I'm writing this because of a few recent posts and some comments I have made. I don't think I have the balance of supportive and advice right that I see in comments from other people, which is a compliment to all of you.

I tend to read blogs where people write about the things that are going in their lives and relationships. Reposting of news articles in a post, without adding their perspective is not as interesting TO ME.

Perhaps it's my living vicariously by reading about the passion in other people's lives. I guess it parallels my interest in reading novels with "emotional" content that I mentioned earlier and how I share personal stuff in my posts.

In my comments I think I try to do too much problem solving instead of just "listening" and expressing understanding. Too much giving of advice as I try to be useful, instead of just making a supportive, though "safer", comments, which I know can be useful as well.

I'm not saying anything about anyone else's comments or implying anything wrong with them, just that I need to learn that judicious balance between being supportive and too much advice that other people have.

sometimes I feel like my comments are just dumb.
but your comments are always helpful and insightful.

I get it now. And I think I disagree with you.

"People write posts just to be heard"....That about sums up my blog.

I'm still learning things about you. But I like the thoughtfulness of this particular post. My replies are usually short and to the point--little advice.

I realize that the post was about your comments to other people... I just don't understand what spurred your doubt on.

Then, I guess I need to say "Thank you."

I feel you have a good balance in the comments you leave on my posts.

Hm. Now I'm doubting my commenting style.

Were you listening in on my recent phone conversation with Mr. Turftoe331 about the re-posting of news articles and how that's not really blogging? Cuz that was really weird.

I kinda look forward to your comments. And I'm hoping that I wasn't part of making you feel like you don't listen well enough or whatever...

Your comments always seem fine to me.
I tend to lean your way with commenting. The empath in me wants to try and support and be helpful.

Sometimes I realize my replies to others are way too much about me. I know I need to be a better listener.

If it helps, I haven't noticed anything amiss with your comments!
