I
drilled today. It was just a simple little do-it-yourself thing, no big deal for most men. I created five holes in a piece of lumber
scrap, nailed it to a fence post, then screwed a gate latch onto it. Voilà ! Now the latch fits more securely over the side of the gate.
As I said, not a big deal, except that I am no
handyman. Since math is not my strong
suit either, I almost need a calculator to count all my thumbs. Finishing this little job made me feel so
good I wanted to pound my chest and grunt aloud like the Tool Man, but I
suspected that my wife was watching at the window.
“Nice job, dear,†she said as I entered the
house. I gave her my best no-big-deal
expression, but inside my gut was churning. I was afraid she was going to ask me to repair the gutters next.
