Tool Man

image

I
drilled today.
It was just a simple little do-it-yourself thing, no big deal for most men.  I created five holes in a piece of lumber
scrap, nailed it to a fence post, then screwed a gate latch onto it.  Voilà!  Now the latch fits more securely over the side of the gate.

As I said, not a big deal, except that I am no
handyman.  Since math is not my strong
suit either, I almost need a calculator to count all my thumbs.  Finishing this little job made me feel so
good I wanted to pound my chest and grunt aloud like the Tool Man, but I
suspected that my wife was watching at the window.

“Nice job, dear,” she said as I entered the
house.  I gave her my best no-big-deal
expression, but inside my gut was churning.  I was afraid she was going to ask me to repair the gutters next.

Gates are great. Was it a U-latch? I like some of the old kinds.

Yes, it's a U-latch. I wouldn't have known to call it that but it describes it perfectly so that must be it.

I am proud of you. Maybe some day I will learn how to use more than just a
nail and a hammer. In the meantime, I have Steve and Jeremy.

Now hold it...people who get pedicures don't need to use tools!

I don't have the instinct for those kinds of projects and although I might eventually get it done, it would take 10 times longer than it should because I'd have to read on the internet about how to use a power drill and all the rest of it.

I don't know...you sound pretty self-reliant with all the stuff you do around your property & cabins.

You're ahead of me already -- I can't picture waht you did or why the latch should be more secure. Don't explain. I'm happy.

Just have another sip of wine and dangle your feet in the pool and you'll be okay...

Congratulations! Power tools scare me.

I don't know about that, but I am going to try my hand at masonry this summer.
