In the past I have railed against the health horror of smoking cigarettes, a habit I kicked in 1977. Then, when I first retired in 1996, I felt so good and relaxed about my new life style that I celebrated by discovering cigars. Every once in awhile I'll order some, enjoy them, then not think about it for six to nine months before getting the urge again.
I got the urge this week and just ordered a small sampler of Acid cigars by Drew Estate. I normally would not plug any product but these are such exquisite smokes that I can't resist. These are unique in the cigar industry. These are Nicaraguan made using special tobaccos and infusions that produce a sweetish, unusually aromatic cigar.
Perhaps the fact that I am just finishing up the 1,000+ pp 3rd volume of Churchill's Manchester biography has influenced me to want a cigar. The Great Man smoked them throughout the day. Today, when you hear someone reference a Churchill cigar, it is the size of the stick they're talking about. Although there are always some deviations here & there, the normal Churchill cigar is 7.0" x 52. The first number signifies length; the second is what's called ring size, i.e., how big around it is.
One does not inhale a cigar so I'm not worried about the few that I smoke. I don't smoke them inside, of course. Most of these I will enjoy while sitting under a juniper tree reading and sipping ... an appropriate beverage.
