WE DO NOT HAVE wall-to-wall carpet in our
house. There are area rugs in various
places and the rest is parquet flooring. I tell you this because, as all cat lovers know full well, cats will
puke, or cough up fur balls, with regularity. The deep mystery to me is… why do they always do it on a rug?
As sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the
west, when one of our cats pukes, it will be on one of the rugs. Forget that the majority of the house has no
rug; the cat will puke on a rug, period.
I suspect there is some mathematical rule that
covers this phenomenon but, unfortunately, my brother the math prof is out of
the country and cannot lend me his expertise. A so-called Murphy’s Law would be appropriate which perhaps could be
entitled “The Puking Cat Conundrum†and read as follows: The prospect of a cat puking on a rug is
inversely proportional to how much rug you have. In other words, the smaller the
percentage of your home’s floor that has a rug on it, the greater the odds the
cat will puke on the rug.Â
This is an immutable law of cat ownership.Â
Whenever I hear the telltale sound … HAKK, HAKK,
HAKK … I know I’m going to need the carpet spray. This is one household product I could buy at
Costco, where they always package several of one item together to get you to
buy more. I cannot have too much carpet
spray.Â
This phenomenon in no way detracts from my adoration
of felines. It simply goes with the
territory. Sometimes they PURRR. Sometimes they HAKK, HAKK, HAKK. Â
