Are We There Yet?

Yes, Virginia, we're here. It's officially SPRING! At least so say the people in the know. Earth's 23.5 degree tilt makes the sun to shine directly overhead at the equator. And from my view, the sun arose directly in the east this morning. The robins and grackles are squabbling, piney squirrels running around. The grass is greening up. Yet, it's still cold and frosty. Nonetheless, Spring has arrived. It's about time!

I read in the paper this morning that the eating habits of men and women are different. No s**t Sherlock! Duh. Men are bigger on meat and frozen pizza, women lean more toward yogart, fruits and veggies. Conventional wisdom confirmed, evidently. I belong to the "surprising exceptions" category: "Men were much more likely to eat asparagus, brussel (sic) sprouts, peas and peanuts." I figure if women outlive men on the average, they must be doing something right food wise. Eating what they eat might extend my longevity.

My refrigerator door is plastered with lists and articles on "best foods for you". Here's the top 10, in case you're interested: almonds, tomatoes, broccoli, blueberries (all berries, actually), green tea, salmon, red wine, spinach, sweet potatoes, and garlic. I would add dark chocolate to that list. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a pepperoni pizza or a Burger King Whopper every once in a while. But I do try to eat what's best for me.

Eat well, my friends, and enjoy the arrival of Spring.

Sol; I like every food mentioned on your blog--except
almonds and green tea. (to me, green tea tastes like
cat p*ss smells--can't stand it.)

Sounds good to me... if they would only add potato chips to that list I would be doing well!

I eat just about what I want twice a day and skip dinner. It works for me. I had onion rings and a mushroom swiss burger for lunch. I try to walk it off and my cholesterol and triglycerides are ok. Ted and I just had a lifeline check of our carotid arteries and arterial health. B oth were ok...wonder how long I can get by with this?

All those best foods for you are on my menu every week. I guess I may just live to be 100 or so. Think you can keep up with me????

I like everything on your list, except for the red wine. Maybe I'll just stick to grape juice.

What no persimmons or cabbage??!!
Glad to hear your having such a wonderful family celebration this weekend!!
My b-i-l surgery ended up being 9 hours...he is in ICU for a few days so he is getting excellent care at Saint Joseph's in Burbank!! Interesting being in a very Catholic hospital all day yesterday!!! Anyhow, My Mom sees her cardiologist again on Friday, so I will head over to Simi Valley soon.
Be well, and enjoy all of your family !!

By moving to the boondocks, I have managed to separate myself from all the temptations that were bad for me: Baskin-Robbins ice cream, Dunkin Donuts, Krystal burgers, et al. My mother, who lives near Atlanta, thinks that when I last visited I was there to see her... Yessss, spring: when a young man's fancy turns to what girls have been thinking about all year 'round.
