Redbuds, Moles, and More

Yes, the redbud trees are in full bloom, but the blossoms aren't really red. Makes me wonder.

I was worried a freeze would damage my fruit tree blossoms over night. However, I don't think it got that cold. Whew.

Finally! Finally! I caught a mole that's been ravaging my yard for over a year. I'm checking for its family, if any. I won't say how I disposed of it, just in case there are any mole lovers out there.

I wandered through the nature preserve behind my house looking for mushrooms (as part of my walk yest.). No luck.

Did you know I walk for at least 10' after every meal? I think that's the secret to burning calories (along with more intensive exercise). I usually gain 10 lbs over winter, but not this time. Zero weight gain. Now, can I keep my weight up this summer when I'm super active?

This is odd: The ex-wife of a friend called to inform me that he died. I asked when. She said last January!! I said I must have missed it in the newspaper obit. She said he didn't want it reported. Strange. I wonder why?

My father turned 94 last Sunday. Sister Barbara hosted a birthday party for him (and me, but I play second fiddle). He keeps chugging along. His mother lived to be 100. So.....

I DID meet a very attractive lady on the bus to D.C. We hit it off personality-wise. Unfortunately, she's married. Boo.
So, as of now, no dating, no prospects. Good or bad?
I still have a crush on my librarian whom I saw yesteday. But I've already struck out with her (a year ago). Perhaps some day she'll see the light and discover what a fine fellow I am!

Observation: I'm positive I was the only person on my DC bus that didn't have some hand-held device, Ipad or whatever. Just sayin'.

So who really knows what happened in the Trayvon Williams case? Bizarre.

Today: repair of loose siding from a windy day. Still, it beats painting clapboard every 5-10 years. Afternoon golf if it's not too cold and windy. The sun is out.
Don't forget Jeri's birthday.
Later.

I love redbuds. There is a huge one at the botanical garden in glorious bloom. I too was worried for the fruit trees and the recent cold snap, but thankfully the chill didn't harm them, no biting frost here. R.I.P., little mole.

Maybe you will live to be as old as your grandmother.

I'm counting on it!! At least I'm working towards that goal.

Sorry about the mole. I will say a prayer for him. A secular prayer -- it still counts. If you have paid any attention to the news reports about Treyvon (Martin, not Williams, fyi) it is obvious that the discrepancies are major. No doubt in my mind that they tried to cover up what really happened. Sort of an old-boy network protecting their own.

Yeah, Martin. That story gets weirder every day. Lot of knee jerk reactions. I'm sure the mole appreciates the prayer. I did give him a proper burial.

Ah, you don't know what you are missing in the hand-held device category. They are cool. Now, after saying that, I don't have one (well, a Blackberry and an iPod Nano... and two Nintendo DS that the kids have outgrown...), BUT no eReader or tablet... I still prefer real books over eReaders and I take "breaks" from the Blackberry - sometimes just for the evening, or even for several days. Doing a 10k race this Sunday (going for sub 55 minutes) and half marathon in 4.5 weeks! My feet hurt.

I'm not even tempted to buy one of those gadgets. I guess I prefer the real world. Great that you're "racing"! I'm totally out of jogging shape. I've lost my enthusiasm--I suppose it's because it's more difficult to run and "softer" to walk. Boo on me.

I have a mole who has already eaten some of the onions I planted!! I'm angry about it. How did you catch yours?
comment by jerms on Mar 27, 2012 8:15 PM ()
Mums the word, but until they've broken their back trying to plant something only to have a critter eat it up after a long, hot summer of caring for it, they can well....kiss my foot. I spread some grub killer on the yard. They come for the grubs and end up staying for my "grub". OK, enough corny humor.

I've tromped his runs countless times, waited around for movement, but never could detect him. Finally, almost by accident, the ground bulged. I grabbed a shovel and tossed him out. WHAM! The end. (Psst. Don't tell any of our animal lovers!)

My tulips are blooming and, as soon as they open, something (rabbit? chipmunk?) nips off the flower, leaving the bare stem and the flower lying on the ground beside it. Why is this happening? Any thoughts, anyone?

When my ex-husband died, there was no notice posted either. Sometime later, his current wife called my daughter to tell her he had died. Something strange going on there too. Very odd.

Yeah, I don't understand the rationality behind keeping ones death a secret.
Rabbits ate all my chard starts. I haven't put up my chicken wire fence yet.

I didn't gain any poundage this winter either and there was no snow to shovel. Not sure how I managed it.
