For some reason, I flipped over to CNN the other night(I still cringe at Wolf Blitzer's constant "uh's"). They were conducting an on-line survey of in-the-news topics and opinions of our president, congress, etc. "Grades" were given out, A to F.
Several things struck me. The eight person panel of "know-it-alls" were completely divided along party lines. A's given from the Democrats, D's and F's from the Republicans, regarding President Obama and his policies. Listening to their comments confounded me (coming mostly from the party of "no"). Facts and truths are anything but!
I find the same to be true with my golfing buddies. Opinions abound, most of which are dogmatic, rigid, and inflexible (3 redundant words, but with emphasis). And from my point of view, said opinions are illogically presented, based on falsehoods, rumors, and ignorance (Obama's birth legitimacy, for example). I get so tired of the refrain "too much, too fast" with regard to issues such as "universal" health care. And then there's that dirty word, "Socialism".
I have learned to keep my mouth shut and swallow my own opinions. For one, I don't like to argue and create turmoil among friends. And for two, there's no point in it. Like the CNN panel, minds are not likely to change, no matter what the facts are. Everybody thinks they know all the answers (even the president). Nobody does.
I'm sick and tired of "experts", both on the telly and golf course. I'm hereby sticking my head in the sand, keeping my opinions underground. I'm tuning out all rhetoric and refraining from expressing my own thoughts. If I've learned nothing else, my opinions don't mean squat. I'm retired.
