I have a 15 cubic foot freezer (32 years old) that frosts up over time. Yesterday was THE day. When I couldn't find room to put my turkey in said freezer, I knew it had to be done.
Out everything came. Want corn? Asparagus? Peaches? Pear or apple sauce? Slaw? And berries--straw, black, rasp? Buried, I discovered 4 gallons of Lions Club ice cream (another story), a variety of leftovers and other assorted "goodies", some a couple of years old.
On the very bottom, I found four freezer bags of cherries, pitted, ready to eat. Date? 1993!! I used to have a cherry tree. So I thawed a bag and made a cherry cheesecake. Still good and tart. Heck, if the meat of a frozen whooly mammoth is still edible, why not 16 year old cherries?
