Hard to believe a year has gone by since the last Father's Day.
As usual, none of my four kids are around to "celebrate" it with me. Good thing I don't make much out of it. I still have my father (91), so my sister is having us over for a cookout later. That's enough for me.
Until then, I will do my usual routine: finish this, go jogging, mow the yard, pick berries, take a nap. No golf on Sundays, except maybe to watch a little on TV.
Speaking of my father.... He is one sharp cookie. Did I tell you he bought a house? He currently lives in a residential neighborhood operated by a retirement facility (called Wesley Manor--Methodist run). This organization bought up two properties adjacent to theirs, one of which my father had previous owned, remodeled the house, and sold in 1981.
The buyer let the place go to rack and ruin--nobody has lived there in 7 years. My dad couldn't stand the thought of "The Manor" demolishing the house he had worked so hard on fixing up (from 1966 to '81). So he offered to "reclaim" it! Offer accepted. The Manor will get his current house back and resell it for a nice amount of money. (Once the resident leaves, the house goes back to the Manor.) The only stipulation Dad asked was that he retain full rights to all Manor privileges. They'll even mow his yard! Sweet deal, too good to pass up.
I don't know how long he'll live or live in his "new" old house, but he doesn't care. It's prime location (on a golf course!), so it's a good investment. We children will benefit. Good ol' (and old) Father! Happy Father's Day, Pop.
