I try not to think about it, but the days are getting shorter. Of course, the temperatures won't be dropping any time soon.
I received about an inch of rain Friday. That saved my garden. My poor daughter and husband weren't that fortunate, 30 miles to the south. They've pretty much lost everything. I'm sick about it, but what can you do? Regular corn farmers have crop insurance to back them up. Not Nate and Emily.
Personally, I love the heat. Bring it on. It might be in response to how much I loathe the cold. So July is my month.
The garden, up to the recent rain, has gone into dormancy. My sweet corn is tasseling and silking, but only 20" tall! It should be over my head. Lettuce is bolting, peas dead, potatoes dying, onions withering. I am watering my tomatoes which are looking good.
My brick driveway addition is completed (ran out of bricks) and looking great! I'm pretty much out of jobs to do around here.
So I'm considering driving up to the northern peninsula of Michigan. Never been up there. I'd like to see Pictured Rocks and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshores.
That's my summary in a nutshell. Have a great week.
