Veterans Day

Usually I like to write a post on Veterans Day, just to let those that have served..and are serving today how much they are are appreciated for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. Well a nasty sickness overtook me Tuesday afternoon, it snuck up on me with a terrorists prowess and waylaid me. It is now Saturday and I am feeling better so I thought I'd go and write that blog now. My daughters school had a program where they honored veterans of the armed services, everyone from parents to grandparents, aunts, uncles..whoever served in their family they were honored. I served in the Army two separate times, 1977-1980 and again from 1982-1985. I got out because at the time I didn't feel the Army was a good fit for me, in hindsight I don't know now. Anyway I saw no combat in the time I was in, there was no war..nobody shooting at us or bombs along the roadside. I was in a peacetime military more concerned about what or where we were going on our time off. So when I am mentioned as a veteran among the men and women I was in the company of, the ones who saw action..who felt the fear of not knowing if that day was going to be their last I start feeling a little chafed at the title veteran. I am proud of my time I served in the military, it changed me for the better. It gave me a work ethic that I carry today..prouder then any CMH winner. I served my country, and the friends that I made and the experiences we shared will be a part of me forever.
