People's Obsessions with Celebrity and Death

I love my web tracker.  I learn such interesting things from it. I'm always amazed at which posts I put up grab the most readership. Posts that I think will be popular often are not while others that I never dreamed would be are.

Over the last year, by far the most read of my blogs was the one titled "The Beginning of the End of America--11-22-63" This post from June 2010-June 2011 has 8459 hits on MyBloggers. That constitutes almost 20% of my entire readership for the past year.

Nothing else is even close. The nearest is a post I did on Bruce Jenner, which has 3282 hits for the same period, which is about 8% of my readership. However, while people spent over two minutes on the first post, they only spent an average of 36 seconds on the Jenner post.

That tells me the post did not address the specific issue they were seeking, which was probably information on the Kardashian family. I refuse to write about them because I consider them tabloid fodder. I touched on his being married to Kris Kardashian, but I really did not get into discussing the three trashy daughters. (Sorry, my opinion only.) Yet, the fact that I cannot pick up a magazine without seeing them on the cover tells me people are fascinated by their lives.

Couldn't begin to track the statistics on my blog. It just never occurs to me. I put it out there. Done, except of course for the comments of my friends that I always look forward to. I don't even know what the Kardashians are famous for or what they look like or who they are. The name recalls an alien species on Star Trek, the Next Generation. That's as far as I get with it. I am apparently not missing much.

I agree with you about the Kardashians. So Kim just got engaged; her boyfriend gave a a 20 carat diamond and she is soooo in love. Wonder if she would be sooo in love if he had given her just a plain gold band and no diamond????

Good question. I just read on AOL that they are currently negotiating a pre-nup. Here's something that shocked me. Her boyfriend is worth a reported 8 million dollars but she is worth 35 million.

Google actually has a free web-tracker for those who want to use it.

You are crazy if you think I can do that--I went to 'statcounter' and reached a certain point and then they started talking Greek!!!! No way could I install it!

They are really not as complicated as they sound. It took me a little while to get the hang of it. Now, it seems simple.

My interest is concentrated on my blog friends.

So is mine. I actually put this web tracker on for an entirely different reason to keep track of a stalker; but it does give me lots of incidental information that's interesting.

I'll look into web tracking, although I admit to being a bit suspicious of how personal information is used by such services, especially the free ones. Hmmmm....

They don't get into such things as giving away ISP's or such. There's really no information on them that would be of value to a hacker.

Ok, teel us about the web crawler? What is it abd where do you get it?
comment by dragonflyby on June 4, 2011 8:32 AM ()
There are tons of them out there. I use on called web-stat.com. I pay 9.95 a month, but they have another version for about $5 a month. There are also many free ones available. I like web-tracker because its easy to install and easy to use. Just google "web-tracker" and it will give you all kinds of options, some free and some for a nominal fee.

What's a web tracker? Is it contagious? How do you get one? What happens if I find NO ONE is reading my blog? ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
comment by greatmartin on June 4, 2011 7:57 AM ()
No! You won't get a "virus" from it. It's just a program that gives you all kinds of information about your readership. See my comment to dragonflyby on how to look into getting one.
