Lots of Rain in Dallas

Our rain has stopped; but it rained for almost 24 hours.  I enjoyed sleeping last night.  There were low rumbles of thunder as the rain came down steadily all night.  All together, we received a little over three inches.  Some places in North Texas had over five inches, and there has been some flooding of creeks, although no problem here.

I live right across the street from an elementary school, and I felt for the little kiddos this morning having to get out in the cold rain  to go to school.  I see the cars lined up over there to pick them up, as elementary schools dismiss at 2:50.  It is still chilly but they won't get wet this afternoon at least.

We have been fortunate here in the Dallas area to have had a lot of rain in both December and January.  Let's hope it continues through the Spring.  After the horrible drought and heat we had last summer, it is going to take a lot of rain to get the ponds and lakes back to normal.

We still have more rain in the forecast for tomorrow, which is good news.

I haven't had my lunch yet.  I usually get around to eating about this time of day.  I'm thinking a big bowl of tomato soup will taste really good.

Think I'll go fix it.  Hope all my friends in Oklahoma are getting rain also.

we haven't had a whole lot of percipitation of any kind here this winter (yet). I can't help but wonder how this is gonna effect the ranchers and farmers come summer.

It will definitely have an effect. I'm assuming you are not getting your usual snow amounts either.

Hooray! Rain! When we get those drought predictions, I always hope maybe the forecasters will be proved wrong.

I'm certainly hoping they are wrong this time about another drought for the summer.

Saw the Dallas pics on the news. Whew! And the drought's not over with yet? Don't forget to fix a cheese sandwich to go along with the tomato soup. My favorite combo!

Yes, I love cheese sandwiches with tomato soup also.

We had l.86 inches. I was going to have to water again if it had not come.

That's a nice rain; but I know you still need more.

No rain here--we are in drought conditions---AGAIN!

Here's hoping you have rain soon. I know the fruit crops need it.

Rain is good for the Pecan orchards. Maybe now the pecan prices will roll back from these historic highs!
comment by jondude on Jan 25, 2012 3:27 PM ()
Yes, it is; but I wouldn't count on prices going down anytime soon. Texas lost half a billion trees to drought and fires last year. In addition, the National Weather Service is saying that we will have good rain in Jan and Feb; but a dry Spring. When we don't get moisture in April, May, and June, which are our traditional wet months, then we have a drought inevitably.

It is dry in Florida too. The state is so dry between Dec. and early March that this is our 'fire season'. Let's hope we have no big fires this year. Glad you guys got rain.

I hope you get some soon. We have had good rains in Dec. and Jan. Keeping my fingers crossed that it continues.

Praying and hoping so much that this rain at long last may signal
a sustained weather pattern that will end your awful drought in Texas.

So am I, but the National Weather Service is saying that we will probably have a dry Spring and be back in drought conditions again this summer. We can only be thankful for what we are getting right now.

Better than snow.

For us it is with our lakes and ponds in such dire need of refilling.
