Deep in the Heart of Texas

Sorry to have been absent for so long; but circumstances sort of dictated it. I flew down to Holly's Friday for Little Buddy's seventh birthday party, which we were going to celebrate at the pool.  It is lovely, by the way.  I will post some pictures later.
Little Buddy always wants to sleep with me, as she did Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.  Saturday around seven, as we were sitting down to dinner, she complained that her throat was hurting.  Sunday morning--the day of her party--she awakened running a temperature.
So, Holly had to call all the families to tell them that the party was going to have to be postponed.  She then took Little Buddy to an urgent care center. The doctor said that her throat was extremely red, her tonsils were swollen and one of her ears was also red.  He put her on antibiotics and by Tuesday she was fine.
Monday afternoon, my throat and left ear began to hurt.  I chilled and did not sleep well Monday night.  By Tuesday, I was seriously ill with a terrible sore throat, an ear ache, and chills.   So, it was off to the urgent care center for me as well.  I started about noon yesterday on 500 mg. of amoxicillan four times a day.  I am better today but my throat is still sore.
This is probably the first sore throat that I have had in forty years.  I have slept with my children and grandchildren, rocked them, held them, you name it,  when they were sick and I never caught anything from any of them.
It concerns me that I so quickly picked this up from Little Buddy.  I came down not only for the party but also to "dog-sit" while the family went to Disneyworld.  They left this morning at 6 a.m.
When I get back home, I am going to go to my doctor and have a complete blood work-up.  I just want to be sure there's not some underlying problem that caused me to be so susceptible this time.

I think if you have not been ill in a very long time- and are getting older, that your immune system may have needed this recharging! Glad you are feeling better.

That could be it. I will have a blood work-up just as a precaution.

I would knock on wood and say I have not been sick in soooo long. BUT, then next week, I would probably come down with something. Hope you are soon back to par again. nena

Texas has some great songs written about it. I love "Deep In The Heart of Texas," and "The Yellow Rose of Texas." But there are many more that I like also.

I think Martin is right. The last 2 events that I attended where there were thousands, guess who got the freekin cold. Moi. and it irritates me that the older I get, the more susceptible I am to the Ills of the world. Drat!!

Drat is right! Whoever named these "the golden years" hadn't lived 'em yet!

Well, it seems as though you have it under control. Too bad that it spoiled your visit.

The amoxicillan is knocking it, although my glands are still sore when I touch them. I feel fine now, however, and my sore throat and ear ache are gone. Still have several more days of antibiotics to take.

meant to put this about your cold -flu whatever ===years back when i was a guard in the railways i got the wog when i was away up the track ---an old time guard told me to chew brown onion, i laughed , but needed something ----it worked --could feel the fumes going right through me good as gold next day ---people keep clear when i get a cold

One thing is for sure! If it doesn't kill you, it's bound to cure you!!
reply by redimpala on June 10, 2010 7:58 AM ()
yep get yourself checked out ---never mind the age bit it happens to us all

I plan to. Having had cancer once, I am especially sensitive to anything unusual happening. It is probably nothing, but I just want a blood work up to be sure my immune system is not being compromised by some unknown source.

My later life problems run to the room spinning that I have had twice now, once quite severely, requiring emergency room visit. It's good you will get yourself checked out. Hope the rest of your visit is smooth sailing and looking forward to your pix.

This is one time that I hope it is my age.

Mine went right to pneumonia. Amoxicillin is my magic bullet, too.

Medicare pays for the pneumonia shot. You should get one. They last five years.
reply by redimpala on June 11, 2010 9:16 AM ()
You get pneumonia when you are run down. Take care about overextending yourself.

Okay, how can I be discreet here??? Let's just say as you get older your immune system is not as strong as when you are younger and need it to take care of kids--was that diplomatic????
comment by greatmartin on June 9, 2010 4:19 PM ()
I'm sure that's probably all it is...just age creeping up on me.
