Should Assault Rifles & Hand Guns Be Regulated?

In light of another mass murder in Colorado by a man carrying four weapons, an AR-15, two handguns, and another weapon, is it time to regulate weapons in the United States to a larger degree?

As a point for consideration, did this MAN kill thirteen people and wound some 50 or did this MAN using the concealed weapons he carried into the theater kill and wound those people?

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that NO civilian could legally purchase AK-15's at gun shows and other places nor could legally purchase hand guns and could only carry a knife legally as a concealed weapon. How many people can a man kill in a busy movie theater with a knife?

Watch this video which discusses how easy it is to purchase an assault weapon without a background check, and it is perfectly legal.

My daDDy sez: There is nothing in the 2nd Amendment about ammo. Regulate ammo, and tax the crap out of it.

Blame it all on guys named Jefferson, Adams and Franklin, who screwed up when they used the wrong words in the Constitution. Guns are as American as used car lots, sitcoms on TV and red-eye gravy. They will never be regulated because the gun lobby buys elections for Congress. It is our system now.

The Conservatives have this attitude that if the forefathers put it in there, that it must NEVER, EVER be tampered with or amended in any way. These guys were NOT GOD! They made mistakes too. Why do we have to live with those mistakes when we live in a world completely alien to anything they could ever begun to imagine?

I agree totally. A shotgun will do what is necessary to defend one's home.
No one should be able to get Glocks and assault guns except the police
and the military.

Try telling that to a Conservative!!

There have been over 60 mass shootings in the US just since January 8, 2011, when U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and eighteen other people were shot during a public meeting held in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, near Tucson, Arizona. Six of those shot died, including Arizona District Court Chief Judge John Roll; one of Rep. Giffords' staffers; and a nine-year-old child, Christina-Taylor Green. Despite this, support for gun control has dropped from over 80% to slightly more than 40%.

I don't know what it is going to take before Conservatives, and even some progressives, finally wake up to the fact that guns don't kill people...people WITH GUNS kill people.

As was just said on the news--Everyone was up in arms about gun regulations after Columbine and nothing was done/changed!
comment by greatmartin on July 21, 2012 3:29 PM ()
As I said below, nothing is going to change because the Democrats always fold under pressure.

Let's ban guns when...
1. We cut welfare in half
2. Implement term limits
3. We cut SS disability benefits and eligibility in half
4. Politicians use the same health care that they give us.
5. Etc.

Otherwise there are a lot of people like me that will fight to the death to keep our freedoms and liberties from bleeding-heart socialists (liberals).

See you at the next midnight screening? I'll be in the armored car.
reply by tealstar on July 23, 2012 12:50 PM ()
I'm not suggesting banning weapons, only regulating them. That means outlawing assault weapons, making it illegal for anyone to own a hand gun, and making these horrible gun shows a thing of the past. Anyone can still own a shotgun or a rifle. That is sufficient to protect any home. No average citizen has ANY need for assault weapons or hand guns.
reply by redimpala on July 21, 2012 11:47 AM ()
Regulations don't help! As I said previously eliminate midnight movie showings.
comment by greatmartin on July 21, 2012 9:40 AM ()
We will never get regulation because the Republicans would fight it tooth and toenail, and the Democrats would do what they always do,,,tuck their tails between their legs and be bullied out of it.

except they should have check this out with the shrink on his mental state.
He is mental and that where the problem began.
comment by fredo on July 21, 2012 9:26 AM ()
Of course, he is mentally ill. All the more reason that assault weapons, hand guns, and ammunition should not be sold to citizens at gun shows and in gun shops nor over the internet, especially

I'm speechless.
comment by nittineedles on July 21, 2012 9:22 AM ()
I know. We are one of the most violent of nations, all because we are too stupid to get assault weapons and hand guns out of the hands of our citizens. Let them have their hunting rifles and shotguns.

In the last 60 days he purchased four guns at local metro gunshops and through the Internet he purchased more than 6,000 rounds of ammunition, more 3,000 rounds of .223 for the assault rifle, 3,000 rounds of .40-caliber ammunition for the two Glocks in his possession and 300 rounds for the 12-gauge shotgun," Oates said. " Also through the Internet, he purchased multiple magazine for the .223-caliber assault rifle, including one 100-round drum magazine which was recovered from the scene. The two stores that sold him the weapons (in the last 60 days) claim they followed all background check procedures.
comment by troutbend on July 21, 2012 7:53 AM ()
Then, let's make it illegal for them to sell assault weapons and glocks to the public. Can anyone buying these types of weapons really plan to use them in any way but bad?
