I just posted my last article about a newcomer in the house eating our spaghetti and god knows what else, and since we're still on the same topic ie. mouse and I'm still on the same pissed-off mood, so here we go again.
The news is, the Indonesian government has banned several websites (including MySpace and Youtube). Apparently they are trying to block the access to Fitna, a controversial short film that explores Quranic motivation for terrorism, Islamic Universalism, simply "Islam's black agenda". (Google if you like).
One government official argued "The analogy is like trying to get rid of rats.. If you wanna kill rats you will have to burn down the whole house".
Please please please somebody call the Guiness Record and tell them there's a new entry for "most idiotic comment"?
I mean, really, Mr. Official? Burn down your house to kill the rats? Would you really?
Fortunately I had watched the film before YouTube was blocked, and I have to say, it's really not worth all the fuss. I mean if you're a Muslim, (a real Muslim, I mean-not the dummies who blow themselves off in train stations), you would not react in a stupid way like that.
I am not comparing myself with other Muslims, but come on! Islam has been bashed and disrespected and misrepresented way too long before this, and in much more condescending ways at that. Chill, people, chill!
And if it turns out that I'm the only Muslim telling people to chill, at least I know I'm using my brain. Yes, it's still the same brain that decides to use mouse-friendly mousetraps (read my previous post).
A friend of mine said it best: "And you know what.. most of the people in indonesia who actually give a damn about it, dont even use the internet". Indonesian religious nuts are too busy preaching in mosques telling people to pray at least five times a day. I doubt they even have the slightest idea about the image of Islam in the world right now (yes, they are that clueless), and do you think these people are the kind who open MySpace? Or YouTube? Seriously?
I am stupid in many ways, believe me, but my stupidity doesn't come near Arson. Enough said.
you are pretty smart!
but what do you have against myspace??
