What fun! Went here last night for a Santana concert with my aunts and a couple of my best girls. I was truly impressed. My Mom and Dad are going Saturday night to see both Rush and Peter Frampton perform - one act begins at 7:30 p.m. and the other show starts at 10.
I would give Summerfest a million stars if I could. I have made it to Summerfest every year since I was a little kid.
Yes, it's crowded, hot, sweaty, humid - or chilly, windy, rainy. There's tons of people watching, tons of mybloggers, delicious food, and lots and lots and LOTS of MUSIC! I have seen so many bands here over the years (both at the main stage and at free stages) - I don't care that they raised admission to $15 - it is still well worth every penny. It's definitely one of my favorite things about Milwaukee - food, music, and the lakefront.
Did I mention the food?!
I have a few food traditions that I maintained this year. First I stopped at the Handshaken Lemonade Stand and had a Lemonade. It's basically just lemon water with sugar, but something about Summerfest makes it taste wonderful! Next came a stop at The Venice Club for their Italian Sausage Sandwich and a side of Fried Eggplant. The sandwich had a huge grilled link with peppers, tomato sauce and cheese and their Fried Eggplant may be the single best food item at Summerfest! For dinner I had Robby's corn on the cob- dripping with sweet Wisconsin butter and a salad from Saz's. Another one of my favorites.
As if that wasn't enough, I had a Mocha Chill from Bella's and a Coconut Joy Sundae from The Cedar Crest Ice Cream Stand. As the name implies, it tasted like an Almond Joy Candy Bar made with Ice Cream. I know this sounds like a lot of food, but remember, I was there for 7 hours and probably "walked", about 10 miles during the day.
Tips:
-Don't drive. Just don't even try, even if you have a DD. Take a bus.
-Don't compare it to any other festival.
-Don't try to buy booze or have someone buy you booze if you're underage - there are TONS of undercover cops and I can count on more than both hands the number of morons I've seen arrested for this. If you look like you're 14 and you look like you're drunk - I don't care how cool you think you are, you look like a moron and I hope you get arrested.
And, most important:
Stand on the bleachers and SING YOUR LUNGS OUT and have an AWESOME time!
Counting down the days for Summerfest 2011!
