Songs of My Life ... Per Grumpy's Request

Grumpy has tossed out an idea that started me to thinking. Thanks, Grump. Sometimes I need to stop and sit and think for a while.
I couldn't download from YouTube all the songs that I feel describe me.  It would take too long and you would be bored.  Instead I'll just name a few and you can trot over to YouTube and have a listen for yourself when you have nothing else to do.
First one that came to mind is, of course, "Georgia On My Mind" preferably sung by Ray Charles or Willie Nelson.  I was born in this lovely state and that song describes some of the beauty and peacefulness found in the lovely hills of North Georgia. It gives you an idea of why some folk travel the world over and return to this lovely state to see the moonlight through the pines.  I'm American by birth and a Georgia gal by the grace of God!
Next: "It Is Well With My Soul" as sung by Wintley Phipps.  The person who penned the words of this song had just received a telegram from his wife.  She had survived the sinking of the ship she and their six children were on as they traveled across the Atlantic to England. He had heard of the disaster and was sure all was lost. Her telegram said simply, "I alone survived".  In the depths of his dispair he wrote this mighty, powerful song of faith. The song starts off like this:
"When peace like a river attends my soul, When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, it is well...it is well with my soul."
No matter if I am on top of the world or sinking into the mire of depression...my soul is safe, my eternity is secured and it is truly well with my soul.  If you choose to not believe as I do, then I respect that.  However, my belief is what keeps me going and this song expresses it fully.
Next...sit back, light a few candles and slip into something comfortable as Percy Sledge croons out "When A Man Loves A Woman". Mercy, Percy! That is the ulitmate love song and his voice could melt an iceberg.  Whoo-eeee. Pass the chocolate and sweet iced tea!
No list would be complete without a blast from the past.  The Beatles rendition of "Yesterday" reminds us of a time when we had no problems, we were young and time stood still.  "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away..."
We cannot live in "yesterday" but must forge on and face tomorrow knowing we will survive.
And on my song list is one for my Hubby. When I have hair-brained ideas, decide on a goal that seems impossible yet am determined to make it happen, or just make the decision to change the color of my hair...he is always supporting me and urging me on to do what I feel is necessary. He pushes me when I start to drag my feet. He encourages me when I begin to doubt my own abilities.  He is my best friend.  He is truly "The Wind Beneath My Wings".
One more song...Bob Hope singing "Thanks for the Memories".  People in my life are what make up the memories.  People in my home town, the place I now live and even out there in BlogTown! People who cross my path and leave a footprint. I can look back and think of teachers, friends, family members and have sweet memories of fun-filled days and laughter.  I hope you all have some one who has given you memories of good times past and the promise of better ones to come!

Great list, Scarlett. I agree with you about ol' Percy Sledge singin' that song. It'll melt the icicles right off the eaves.

I love your blog today and your choice of songs. Georgia on my mind always makes me think of a dear friend named Georgia. I almost married her son just because I adored her so much, but decided that I didn't love him enough and gaining a wonderful mother-inlaw wasn't a good enough reason for marriage. I do miss her. Again... great songs and great explanations to go with each one.
