Rant #2

I am amazed by the number of ignorant, illiterate and/or rude people who manage to get their hands on a computer.

Most of my Etsy customers know what they're doing when they make a purchase. They actually read what I write in the description and my policies but not all. I get a lot of airheads demanding to know where their pattern is, how do they download it and why isn't it in their hot little hands immediately after they pay for it. All they needed to do was read this: "I check my e-mails frequently throughout the day and as soon as I see your order I will e-mail this pattern to you." One lady waited 15 days before replying to the message I had sent her with the pattern as an attachment. She said she had been watching her mailbox every day but the mailman still hadn't delivered the pattern. Then I had to try and explain to her that she'd had the pattern for 15 days and how to open the attachment.

Then there's the woman who paid a princely sum for both of my Christening gowns. She immediately sent an e-mail asking if I could send the parcel "signature required". I checked the Canada Post website to find out how much more that would cost her and replied to her e-mail. I then waited eight days for her to let me know if she was willing to pay the extra. Finally I contacted her through Etsy and it was too much. She doesn't want to pay it so I'll be sending it the cheap way. I hope she gets the parcel because my shipping policy states: "Your item will be shipped by Canada Post’s Small Packet-surface mail. If you wish to receive a tracking number, in case of loss, please let me know as I will need to increase your shipping cost accordingly. Once your purchase is turned over to Canada Post I am no longer responsible for it."

And let's not forget the lady who ordered one of my knitting patterns and then had the gall to ask for her money back because she thought it was a crochet pattern and she didn't know how to knit.

I hate dealing with the public. I hate dealing with the public over computers even more because you can't reach out and slap them up side the head.

Computers are like children. People should be compelled to take a course before they have one.

Mr. YouKnow went to Las Vegas last week and kept saying that for some reason my emails to him were delayed by 10 hours or more. This was an excuse for him to ignore every question I asked him and relay very little information. Finally, he gets home with his laptop and I look at his email - he needed to expand the "Today" filter to see the most recent messages. (no emoticon for the slap my forehead salute)
