Glad All Over ...

Who sang that? Back in the mid sixties? Was it Herman and the Hermits?

I'm glad we are still a functioning blog. A couple of my other blogs were on the Ning service and servers and Ning decided to charge fees. One of them, a blog for writers and artists called Inked-In asked members for donations and all it took was a few folks to pony up the cash to keep it alive. But then, Inked-In has about a thousand users. My family blog there only has a few, so I shut it down.

The sad fact is that small blogs won't survive. The big monster is Facebook. It has all but killed off even the other "monsters," such as MySpace, which I predict will fade away within a year.

We are lucky to have Ed keeping us "alive." Thank you, sir!

............

I feel like I am living in Brazil. The heat is awful. 96 yesterday. probably beat that today. The humidity is worse. You need to take a sharp knife with you when you step outside just to cut a path through the air. I am doing everything I can for the cats, floor fans everywhere, curtains pulled. Pans of ice in front of the fans. Tequila sunrises.

It will last until some time Friday when the slow cold front manages to get here.

............

I am so happy that the Oranje got through Uruguay to the World Cup Final. They were a real surprise, but I feel that the Dutch team is one of the most talented football sides of the last four or five Cups, with the exception of the 1994 Brazilian side. Whoever wins today (Germany or Spain) will have a heck of a time beating the Netherlands.

It is nice to have a place to rant and the interaction is priceless. I feel that I know all of you and sometimes we disagree but that is just healthy.

To me Facebook is a glorified chat room and I thought those were inane, consisting mainly of comings and goings and condensed sentiments repeated endlessly. There were no finely honed opinions, no life stories, no poems, no in-depth essays. You could occasionally have an exchange "in the attic" that made sense, but would perhaps not come across that person again. And, of course, there were the endlessly seeking "the right one" types. I wouldn't join Facebook on a bet.

My first thought was Gary and the Pacemakers until I read Tbends answer. Yes, the Dave Clark 5!
We do something different here. We actually communicate! Facebook is really not set up to do more than send a line or two like a Twitter. We write paragraphs and comment on each others posts. It is not about agreeing or disagreeing. It is about taking an interest in and acknowledging each other.

Funny item: They are going to do a spy exchange, first one since the Cold War. All of the Russian spies that were arrested last week (12 or 13 of them) for one Russian national, a scientist, in Lefortovo Prison in Moscow. He apparently has been in prison since the late 1990s for handing the US some information that the US claims could have been gotten off the Internet. I think the US is nuts to release the spies. Make 'em pay.

I forgot to remark that I noted H.M. Queen Elizabeth II visited NYC yesterday and was wearing a nice Tom Petty-style chapeau. Or maybe it was more of an Elton John style. Whatever it was, I believe it was a hat.

There will always be a place for 'smaller' blogs--I know facebook is way too 'busy' for me not to mention filled with a lot of unnecessary 'stuff'.

We have broken records here with OVER 90+ degrees 32 days in a row but I'll take it over the 'cold' record e had this past winter.

Dave Clark Five? I didn't google it, this is Mr. Tbend's best guess.

Cold front here today, 65 degrees down from the 80s yesterday, hope it reaches you soon. Yesterday the Rockies scored 9 runs in the 9th inning to beat the Cards 12-9, the biggest 9th inning comeback the Rockies have ever had.
