Bisbee Bird ...

I haven't had much sleep. It is Sunday morning. Bisbee is sick and I sat up most of last night watching and helping him as I could. He is not a natural hand-or-finger bird, but I actually had him perched in the palm of my hand for a while. Budgerigars of his type seldom live longer than 8 or 9 years. He is seven.

If this is a death watch, I can handle it. I will do what I can for him. I padded the cage with hand towels and am keeping his water clean by the hour. He is puffed up and his eyes are narrower. I just brought him down from the bedroom and hung the cage were he spends his days, in the living room. I put the TV on Disney for him, which is routine.

He hasn't made a sound since early yesterday.

We have been through a lot together.

So glad to hear that Bisbee is feeling better! And I read on a couple blogs that today is the day this world was truly blessed by your birth.
So with extra hugs to you and all the warmth in my heart....HAPPY BIRTHDAY JON!!!

dear jon, so sorry about Bisbee. Can a vet do anything for him if he worsens? My thoughts are with you. Give him a pet for me. I know what you mean about the Derby. I can't even read about it.

Yes, I knew something was wrong with Spitfire when the day before she died she perched on my shoulder even if it was only for a second plus I was able to take her back to her cage when she got on my finger for the very first time.
Of the 4 budgies I had only Butch is still alive and he was the first one I bought and he is the oldest of all of them--the other 3 died before they reached 5.
I hope Bisbee makes it!

Jon, I'm so sorry. That just upsets me. No matter what kind of animal it is, when you've lived with them for years and years you forge a relationship. I'm thinking of you.

I broke a personal tradition yesterday by not watching the Kentucky Derby. I am glad I did not watch it. The fatal injury to the filly would have been tough to take. I put CMT music on the TV for Bisbee now. He is snoozing. Thanks, everyone.
