Meathead

Benny had a large tumor (suspected) on his head above his right eye. Vet put him on pred for 10 days, but on the eighth night Benny scratched at it and ended up last Sunday morning with a bloody bump.

The vet took him on Monday morning for surgery and told us not to be shocked we we picked him up at 3:30. Doc isn't really sure of what it was. A molar under the hump was easy to remove and there was evidence of an abscess.

So, it's kind of a mystery, but the big guy seems to be doing much better now. He has a follow-up appointment at 8 am tomorrow (Monday) morning.

The picture may appear a bit gross to some, but it's much better than it was after surgery. There wasn't enough skin available to sew it up, and Benny wasn't as willing to wear a cone as he was a few years ago after surgery. Understandable, really. Parts of his head must have hurt and a cone wouldn't feel good at all. He lets me touch his neck and face now and the hole seems to be filling in.

He's got his bark back and he still eats like a champ so hopefully the report from the vet will be positive.

Here's the pic....

I feel so sorry for the poor guy. Rex hates the cone too. He has some
lumps and bumps but the Vet doesn't want to put him under anesthetic
unless it is absolutely necessary. I couldn't get the picture either.
It is awful when our pets get old.

Benny didn't leave anybody a choice when he removed the skin.

Oh, poor old doggy head! I guess mature dogs are prone to growths and absesses -- my old dog Buddy was so patient with the healing up of his eyelids when he had bumps removed. But that cone was necessary so he wouldn't rub his face on the carpet, hurting the stitches.

Benny did fine when the surgery was on his hind thigh. I think what bothered him this time is that his chin/head hurt.

Poor Benny--I don't blame him--I have always seen those cones are torture!!
As long as he is eating.
I have to see if I can see picture.

They have less offensive devices than the cone these days--depends on where the wound is. One device is like a doughnut that goes around the dogs neck.

I couldn't see the pic? Poor little dude. Glad he's feeling better and I hope it continues!!!

I don't know what's with the pic. Maybe I forgot how to post pictures. If you highlight it as if you were going to cut and past and right-click open, it is visible. Geez... I hope it's not my memory that isn't working.
