Got a Recipe for Chipmunk?

I think my garden has a chipmunk problem, or maybe it's a groundhog family, but they are destroying the zucchini plants and eating Donna's green beans right off the plant. They don't disturb the zucchini flowers, but the plants won't survive with barely any leaves.

Below is also a pic of my first early gurl. They are the strangest looking tomatoes I've seen. Almost looks like the tag was wrong and the tomatoes are roma or plum. The cool/cold spring could have also affected the growth. The first few began to grow way too soon.

Buster knows that the rodent(s) is living in the woodpile, but I'm not about to unstack a full cord to get the bugger, it would only run and relocate. I stopped by Farmer Wayne's place this morning to drop off some processed horseradish which he really appreciates, but he wasn't around the greenhouse--probably tending a field at 11am.

Anyway, what should have been a great growing season is going downhill but there not much I can do about it. Here's the pics.....

Our cat catches and eats most of a chipmunk a day - I'll find out her recipe and post it.

I keep reading about electronic devices that emit sounds that will keep pests away. You might look into that. I wouldn't eat any chipmunk or squirrel, unless we had the ultimate disaster and that's all there was. I have enough trouble trying not to think of the meat I do eat as once having been a cow with soulful eyes. love tomatoes fresh off the vine. A friend gave me a tomato plant once, and told me how to tend it, but no matter how I tried, it went downhill and I gave up.

I've seen reviews of those electronic devices on This Old House and other respectable programs. The evidence suggests that they are all but useless. I'd be vegan if I had to kill my own meat, but it's easy to rationalize when it comes in a package.

My early girls are big and round and a bright orangey red. I think you
got roma's by mistake. Mike and Fredo need a recipe for woodchuck.

I can't believe folks actually think that I'd eat a chipmunk or groundhog. I'd have to be starving (for days) before I'd even eat a squirrel.

That definitely looks like a Roma tomato!!!
Chipmonk tastes just like chicken (doesn't everything?) so cook it teh way your would cook chicken!

I wouldn't butcher a chipmunk even if it was for you to eat.

Do you think I could substitute raccoon for the chipmunk?
comment by nittineedles on July 22, 2014 7:31 PM ()
Raccoon is actually edible. I suppose chipmunk is too, but I've never heard of doing it. I can't believe some folks actually believe that I'd skin one of those little critters (even if I could catch one).
