To Eat or Not to Eat

I picked this think up at the grocery store. There was a shopping cart full of them outside with a sign that said, Cabbage $1.

I've never seen cabbage like this before and I've never heard of growing cabbage in a pot.

So I grabbed it as a replacement for the almost-dead basil on the kitchen windowsill. A little color for the off-season. Winter is slow coming this year in these parts and nobody is complaining. We had a bit of white frost last night but it'll will be almost 60 again by Monday. Can't complain about that!

Even tho the store called it cabbage, it seems to be ornamental kale according to an expert on fb. Works for me.

We have a purple cabbage but this is much more ornamental. I have
seen it in flower beds and I like it for it's color and shape. It is
also very hardy and stays pretty all winter.

The Herb Guy on fb says it's Ornamental Kale. He seems to know his plants.

Around here, we call that Ornamental Kale, and people plant it in flowerbeds as a summer annual. I don't know if they eat it, but I don't know why you couldn't if you got a sudden craving for kale.

I'll be keeping it where it is on the windowsill.

I've grown Romaine, celery, lettuce, etc., in a pot--why not cabbage? I will admit though that I have never seen a purple cabbage--let me know if it turns green!
By the way the answer is ALWAYS TO EAT!

Apparently is winter cabbage. I can't imagine planting anything around here this time of year but that's what's supposed to happen. I'm keeping on the windowsill.
