Early Planting Again (Again)

After I killed the last test planting of butternut squash seeds by feeding them houseplant food, I decided to try again, since waiting for spring is more bearable when I feel as tho I'm doing something to hasten its arrival. I'm not sure what temperature is required for germination, and I was about to give up on this batch, but they finally sprouted. The lemon-thyme (the big plant in the pot) survived the plant food ans as you see is doing very well.

I have already purchased at Wal-mart the seeds for this summer, which is a necessity, since they don't restock when they run out, and they run out before planting time. Gotta shop early. I went through the old seeds that I really don't trust but I was all worked up about spring and planting so I put the seed I think may germinate in peat pods.

It's actually a bit soon to plant even indoors, but if any of these do will I can put them into 3 inch pots and keep them inside until late May.

While I had the camera out I walked through the living room and saw herself getting ready to go to town. For you non-facebookers:

Oh well, that picture is too large for mybloggers, but perhaps one of the boyz will fit:

Nope... all the other pics are too large.... Next time.

Not much else going on around here. Another firewood delivery tomorrow in the rain. Yes, rain instead of snow! I have to get this load in while the ground is still frozen or the truck will leave deep ruts as it crosses the lawn. I'll have next year's supply in although I might be able to fit one more cord at the end of the burning season which isn't far off. It's less than two weeks before the clocks spring ahead. And although it won't feel like spring outside, it will look like spring when it's light until 7!

Survived another winter....

Nice to see that mybloggers dropouts can find their way back!

When I was growing up I knew LOTS of neighbors. I am not sure why but that doesn't seem to be the norm anymore. When I was in my condo I did talk to the neighbors but it's not like we ever had more than formalities. My parents became good friends with their neighbors, I wish it was more like that still, but I guess I am part of the problem by not changing.

I water my plants twice a week--Wednesday and Saturday--the same days I wash my green thumb!!!

Talk to my neighbor? Who does that???? Good advice though... Actually I do have some friends who plant veggies nearby so I will talk to them!

Yup, people familiar with the local climate.

Interesting comment about neighbors: Mine are late 30s (maybe 40 by now) and behave like that.

Donna is a very pretty lady. I loved that pic!
So should I be starting to plant things inside now to transfer over later? I seriously need to get on the ball to learn about planting.

Best thing to do is talk with a neighbor who plants and has lived there for a long time. Your season will be longer than ours, but i don't know by how much. I can plant potatoes in late April and cold tolerant above ground plants in mid-May, but the general rule is "after Memorial Day". I usually don't plant inside, since as soon as the weather gets warm (June) anything planted outside almost catches up to what was started inside. I'm just so tired of winter that I got carried away (planted more butternut this morning LOL).

Oh, you make me feel like planting!

I only did it to make sure the seeds I saved were good... and got carried away.

Thanks for the wishes!!!!

I just water plants on Wednesdays and Thursdays and maybe the Dollar Store seeds are magic seeds????

My spider plants seem to do best in the winter (off growing season) when I neglect them. Now they are starting to produce so I'll probably over-water.

I have high hopes too. I bought three of those hoses that coil up so am
hoping it makes watering easier.

Donna gave me one of those for my birthday at the end of winter last year. Figured it'd be easier to wash vehicles in the cold if I didn't have to wrestle with stiff hose. But it's on 3/8" and the pressure is useless for anything but watering. For that purpose you'll probably enjoy using them. The coils can get stuck going around corners, but aside from that, they are convenient.

The Dollar Tree store are selling their flower and vegetable seed packets--4 for a $1--I always buy the flower seeds, maybe tomorrow I'll get some veggies.
Sorry but I just throw them in dirt in a pot and they grow!!!

You obviously have a green thumb. I am lucky I can keep spider plants alive. The miniature rose bush/plant I gave Donna for V-day is already on its way out. Too wet, too dry? I'm just leaving it alone til it gets really dry. BTW, Happy Bday. Joust got on mybloggers so I don't know if anybody did a post yet.

My buddy from the Fellowship is planning to bring a load of aged cow manure. It's the only way I'll ever get a decent cuke. Last year they were rounds as they were long and turned orange (probably too ripe). High hopes for this season!

I love starting seeds indoors - so much promise, so much hope. And I always plant them too early, too, especially the squash because they can grow so quickly. I'd like to get some cucumbers to grow this year.
