Yeah, this is another glimpse into my rather mundane personal life. I'm really looking forward to our upcoming trip to the border. We need to renew the papers on the van and the two girls that are helping me here need to renew their visas, all of which must be done on the border. So, although I really didn't need to go myself and would rather save the trip money for something I can use here, I decided to go because the girls don't know the way to the border. Besides, it wouldn't be safe to send them alone, especially with all the recent gun fights between Mexican officials and the drug cartels. (Not that I would be much protection against all of that. Say a prayer for us, please.)
However, at the end of our fourteen hour road trip, we will be on American soil, the land of OUR citizenship which affords us all the rights of a native-born American. That might or might not stir you, but if you've ever lived in a foreign country on a visitor's visa, you know what I mean. There is so much you are not allowed to do.
I do so look forward to shopping in an American Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, sporting goods stores and other such centers of the oft-decried American materialism. In addition, the thought of eating an apple fritter every morning for breakfast and a steak at Logan's Roadhouse (almost) every day for lunch just lights me up. I also plan to visit some friends and generally live it up as much as one can when he is neither at home nor "at home". (I hope the money holds out...hehe.)
Hopefully, when we return we can file for a more permanent type of visa for the girls so that these trips to the border every six months can become an option and not a necessity.
So, until later, tally ho. I'll still be around here on MyBloggers to read all the great stuff you folks write. I'll try to keep you posted about the trip and another little surprise I might tell you about when I return.
