Colorado/new Mexico: Day 5

Well, my photographic enthusiasm seems to have waned a little on this last leg of our trip. Here's what I managed to glean from the last day.
The Denver Skyline. Jennifer took this one while I drove:

We were listening to the news coverage of the theatre massacre as we drove by the exit for Aurora. The senseless tragedy of it all saddens and infuriates me.
We loved the sand dunes, although we only spent less than an hour there. I was fascinated by the process of how they were created and maintained by wind, water and gravity. An areal view of it reminds me of a sandbox in the corner of a backyard somewhere. I'll spare you the explanation of how it came to be and how it is self-renewing.

Here's another shot of them without the distraction of the lovely ladies!

New Mexico's terrain is beautiful in a rugged way. At least the part we saw of it is. Those mountains with all the holes in them amaze me. I'm going to Google that and see what caused all those holes. The interesting color in all the layers are neat. Sante Fe is a beautiful city! Of course, my love affair with stucco, Spanish style architecture has never ended. If I'm ever able to custom build a home, I'm sure that will play a major role in the design of it. Stucco and black, wrought iron. It never gets old for me.

All the mesas and buttes were beautiful in differing degrees of sunlight . Just driving through there was a treat. I've heard other parts of New Mexico are quite ugly and rough. Fortunately, the part was got to see was every bit as beautiful as these pictures show and then some.
We returned home to 100+ temperatures and a yard that has been practically burned up. The okra, however, if flourishing!
I have a job interview tomorrow. Wish me luck!
More later. Cheerio!

I always think of Taos and Santa Fe as being in the slow lane, meant to be savored, especially in the fall when the red chili ristras are hanging alongside each doorway and pinon smoke scents the air.

Now we'll have to go back in the fall. See what you've done!!??

I am with you on the Spanish style home we loved this.We see a lot of these in our trip to Guatemala and the stucco is enchanting. It will be nice to built one and good luck.
Mike and I always had the Spanish influence from way back.Though we do not speak fluent but know enough on the language to get by.Welcome home.Nice photo there and the family.

My fascination with stucco was only revived on this last trip. We have some nice arches in the interior of our home. Most people said we should take them out, but I like them. Even if they are dated.

Photos don't do "the West" justice, do they? If you think New Mexico is nice, try Utah. Now, that will knock your socks off. Glad you made it home safely.

Why thank you. I shall try Utah and Montana and Washington and the Dakotas. I really would like to visit all 50 states before I die. I might even enjoy some of the unincorporated territories of the US. Whatever that means.

I am thinking positively for you. I don't think New Mexico is ugly and the
landscape really does enchant. I am with you on Spanish Houses built around a courtyard. Did you know the blue trim you see all over Santa Fe
is thought to ward off evil spirits?
comment by elderjane on July 23, 2012 6:06 PM ()
I had no idea about the blue trim.

Home again. Home again. Jiggity jig.
I would love to hear "the explanation of how it came to be and how it is self-renewing".
How'd the interview go?
comment by nittineedles on July 23, 2012 3:39 PM ()
They had already filled the position before I got back.
And yes, home again is always a wonderful feeling.

I remember my trip---40 years ago!!!--driving from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and having to pull over to the side of the road because the sunset was so beautiful with all kinds of colors on the mountain sides!
Is the square in Santa Fe still full of Indians selling jewelry?
comment by greatmartin on July 23, 2012 9:09 AM ()
We didn't see the square this time, but several years ago when I went as a child they were still there. I had forgotten about that until you reminded me this time.
