Carpet! and Mathis Brothers Furniture

The carpet is being installed tomorrow! So, I called Mathis Brothers to see if they could deliver our bedroom suite tomorrow as well, a suite that supposedly was in stock when we ordered it. Said suite won't be ready until the beginning of next month (WHAT???!!!). My wife and I both distinctly remember being told that those pieces were in the warehouse. The salesman reeled off a couple of quick stories trying to put me off track, but we both feel pretty sure we remember him saying it was all there and just ready for our call. We could be mistaken, but there's a nagging sense that we aren't.

Not to be daunted, we've agreed to sleep on an air mattress if we have to. We are so anxious to get moved in and unpacked.
The salesman called back to saythat (surprise!) the bed and mattress are in stock, but the dresser and night stand aren't. I'm starting to smell a rat, since supposedly TEN other people are waiting on the same set, all ordered before we ordered ours. Or maybe I'm too suspicious. I come by it honestly.

No matter, we'll sleep on the floor tomorrow night, if we have to. We're determined to move in. LOL

In happier news, the baby is growing and her heartbeat is STRONG. We've graduated to bi-monthly doctor's visits now. Jenn had some blood work done today. Results on Thursday.

I wouldn't leave it at that with Mathis. Check the local Better Business Bureau to see what complaints have been made about them. Get some advice on how to proceed. I would threaten to cancel if I don't get immediate delivery. You've already paid them? If it's on a credit card, see if you can stop payment. That will get their attention. If you are sleeping on the floor anyway, ordering from another store won't take any more time, particularly if you don't pay before delivery. Make it C.O.D.

Thanks for the advice. I've been on the phone with them this morning and it hasn't been pretty. They haven't heard the last from me yet.

I had a very bad experience with Mathis brothers when I ordered a custom
designed sofa for the living room. I have it and I like it a lot but
they misled me on the pillows. I was able to use them elsewhere but they
were not necessary, expensive, and when I plump them up feathers come out.
I got the new sectional for the family room from Hemispheres and we are
delighted with it.

I got online and read a lot of negative comments about Mathis Brothers for things similar to what you wrote and things similar to what I'm experiencing. I'm writing a letter as soon as I get all my stuff.

"All good things happen to those who wait" (or something like that!). Congrats on all the good news. BTW, I'm not familiar with Grantsburg, but I do know Bedford. Just south of Bloomington where I went to college (IU). Love southern Indiana, geographically speaking. Otherwise, it's very red-necked.

Yes, Grantsburg is just one hour south of Bedford. I think the scenery is beautiful and actually, the people I met weren't red-neck at all. In fact, some of them were quite intelligent. It takes all kinds.

6 months from now you will feel you always lived there--though there will always be something to do around the house!

Isn't that the truth. I was surveying all the piddly little jobs there are left to do today. It's exciting, really. I'm 36, almost 37 and never have had a home to fix up and maintain. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Sounds as though you might have been "sold a bill of goods by the salesman." Did he check on line before telling you it was in stock?
comment by redimpala on May 10, 2011 6:54 PM ()
He did, indeed. That's why Jenn and I remember him saying it was there. Dad said they probably just sold it to someone who wanted it right away, thinking that we were going to take longer to request delivery.
