Burn Out

It had been three days since I was able to get out in the garden. Going from work to home for quick shower, then immediately to Kid's Crusade prevented me from keeping an eye on it. Well, with the extremely hot weather we've been having, my garden was dying and I didn't even know it. When I finally got out there to look at it, everything looked almost dead. Some of it was just very wilted, but parts of it do not look like they will survive. I may go ahead and dig up all my potatoes, just in case. If the temps don't fall below 75 at night, this might be the end of tomato season as well. It's 10pm and I'm watering right now. This is supposed to be done in the morning, but I've declared an emergency situation! It's been over 100 degrees for three days now. It's hotter than that in other parts of the country. I only hope we have a really cold winter this year. If all of this is cyclical (and I believe it is), then we should be in for some milder summers in coming years. One can hope.
I have a new addiction. It's Angry Birds on my phone. It's a silly game that's been around for a while. I'm a latecomer.
Your posts have been interesting. I don't always comment, but I'm always reading. My resolve to post once a day, has been diluted to about once every three days. And I fear this drivel will drive you all away. LOL Carry on.

Angry birds- I just discovered them since I got my Kindle Fire. I never understood phones with apps, but the Kindle is sort of a step between PC and phone so I 'get' it more. Sorry about the drought. Sounds even worse where you live than down here.

See- I learned something new. I did not know one could earn extra stars!

I'm addicted to that game!! I insist on getting three stars before I move on to the next level. A bit compulsive, but that's me.

What we were told on coming down to Florida where there are lawns, is never to water in the heat of the day but always early evening -- else the sun just dries out your efforts. Maybe early morning is just as good. I no longer try to do much. It's a lot of work and so disappointing when the weather does not cooperate.

I've heard the same thing about watering in the heat of the day. They also say that watering a garden in the evening promotes disease and fungus in garden plants. So, I try to do the early morning routine when I can.

It was really scattered showers, but I think the fire area near here got some. If it was like mine, it lasted about 10 minutes, not really enough to make a difference, and there are wind gusts with the storms, so that just fans any flames. But it helps our morale, and for the time there are clouds, the temperature goes down. That other fire area, near Colorado Springs didn't get any moisture, and they were having 65 mph winds. That's a giant mess down there.

I noticed you're supposed to be getting a little rain this weekend, maybe?

While your resolve is to post every day, I'm going in the opposite direction. Just wondering if it's worth the time and effort.

I go through that thought process as well. Sometimes.

I water every morning and it does get to be a chore. I have kept the
stuff alive but even the zucchini is not producing much. My early girl
tomato plants are very productive but not as tasty as the Celebrity.

I gave my stuff one more round of Sevin. If the squash bugs come back after that, I'm just going to let them have it.

we are getting a heat wave starting today. I am not looking forward to it at all. I like summer but not when the temps climb over 90. and the pool is more like bath water so even that won't be refreshing. ugh! bring back winter!

Yeah, our pool was kind of tepid this morning.

We finally got some rain, yesterday and again this afternoon. The roofers are still working on our roof, so it wasn't good for them, but they also benefitted from the cooler temperatures. I don't know if they will finish it tomorrow, and if they don't will they work on it over the weekend. We have a hip roof - no gables, so every piece has to be measured and cut as they go. The goose is keeping them company.
