We are covered up in squash and zucchini. Jalapenos peppers and cucumber abound. Tomatoes are ripening almost faster than I get out there to harvest them. Okra...strangely...nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Potatoes are doing well. My friends now groan when they see me coming with a Walmart bag in hand. They have already had their fill of squash and zucchini. I've been stingy with the peppers since we discovered a recipe for stuffed jalapenos. We might make salsa next, since we're getting so many tomatoes. I'm not a big sliced tomato fan. Jennifer has become quite creative about cooking up squash and zucchini, but our friends and family eat out so much, we're not whittling down our stockpile. I haven't frozen any of it yet, because I was told it doesn't fry up very well afterward.
My life is blessed. We have to work hard, but we're content. Sofia has brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. I'm still amazed at how much she has changed us. I cannot predict the future, but I think she will be a noble child with a kind heart. Glimmers of her personality shine through.
Next week, our Kid's Crusade begins at church. Monday - Friday, 7pm-9pm. Five nights of children's activities, prizes, games, stories and puppet shows. The underprivileged children of our neighborhood absolutely love it and we're happy we can provide a spot of wholesome entertainment and instruction in a fun-filled atmosphere. We're working with a great team of hard-working folks who will make it a success. Jennifer has been the mastermind behind most of the programming and creative work. Every year, while we're gearing up for it, we both say we're paying someone to come in and do it for us next year. Every year, after it's over, we both say, when we do this again next year we can....followed by a string of new ideas and possibilities. I doubt if we ever pay anyone to do it for us. LOL
Sofia seems to like red bell peppers! She's also eating carrots and squash and zucchini from our own garden.
