USA #6

We arrived in Tampa round 2 pm and when we wanted to check in our room wasnt ready yet. No problem, cause on the other side of the street there was a mall and we went to Macy's to do some little shoppings. At 3 we were able to check in and we got a nice room. We actually were in a mood for the swimming pool so we spent the rest of the day sunbathing and swimming in a quite hot watered pool.
Afterwards back to our room and when my wife was washing her bikini a giant cockroach appeared in the sink. We are totally not used to these creatures so she gave quite a scream cause she actually had the cockroach in her hand :)
Well with some tools I was able to drown the beast in the toilet and it was quiet in the room again......
At night we had a great dinner (for Martin: a shepherds pie accompanied by a nice glass of Irish beer)
Next day we had planned to to go to St. Petersburg. We had received information that it should be a nice place to visit but once there, we were disappointed a bit. It was a sunday afternoon, but there was no activity at all. The pier was a bit disappointing as well.
We ate some Italian Ice and went back to our hotel.
Next to our hotel we had dinner in T.G.I.Friday and I must say.... it was great. An excellent salad with strawberries and balsamic dressing tasted marvelous and also the fish afterwards was very nice.
Monday I first went to the coin-laundrinette. We took quite some underwear with us but after 2 weeks we almost went out of underwear so ......
That afternoon we drove to Tarpon Springs. Its a little town, where they fish for sponges. The majority of the people who live in Tarpon spring is Greek from origin. It was a quiet peaceful place to be. We had a good (Greek) dinner there and we drove towards our hotel in a touristic way.
Next day we packed, checked out and started our way to the next stop on our journey: Fort Myers beach!

When we arrived our room, again, wasnt ready yet so we changed clothes and went to the swimming pool to relax a bit after driving for several hours. It was a nice resort (https://www.outriggerfmb.com/ ) and we had some nice drinks before we were able to get the keys of our room.

Sorry you missed Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands just off Clearwater. I was in Tarpon Springs last year! It is a pretty quaint town. When in Ft. Myers, you were close to Harriet (tealstar). I visited her last year when I was in the area. Is your vacation almost finished?

Ybor City in the Tampa area is Cuban and they used to have cigar factories there. Not so much to see today, but you can get a Cuban sandwich. How about Busch Gardens? Free beer sampling and some really good roller coasters.

"Tools" to drown a roach???? What kind of tools??????
I love living in Florida but you learn very quickly that n the smmertime you can't dive into a pool--or the ocean--to cool off as usually the water is as warm as the outside temperature
Seems you had a problem with rooms being ready--did you arrive before check in time?
