Good Morning, MyBloggerstown:
Well, today is the long awaited West By God Virginia primary. Unsualy no more than a blip on the political radar, all the major news outlets are going to be on this event like hair on a gorilla. Most polls have Hillary beating Mr. Obama's ass soundly by 20 percentage points are more. They sit and pontificate about why this is but they never touch on the real reason Mr. Obama will not do well here. Its dat good, ol' fashion racism. It doesn't have thing one to do with not wearing a flag lapel pin, or being an "elitist", or immigration policy. The web toed, inbred, redneck boobs who make up the majority in this benighted, backward state simply will not vote for a black man. Period. I know. I live here and I know what they are like. Every time the local news asks some yokel his opinion, he/she/it inevitable sez something like. "Ah'm not votin' fer him. Ah heared he wuz a Muslim an' he's un-Amurican." I keep cringing, waiting for some particularly stupid racist moronic asshlole to call him the "n" word. When Jesse J:ackson campainged here many years ago, that happened to him. Some Deliverence cast member at a campaign rally called Rev. Jackson the "n" word on national television. I was mortified and thought, "well, another red letter day for West By God. The stereotype has been re-enforced." Like it or not, racism is still here. And not just in places like West By God. More subtle, couched in catch phrases ("hard working white people" like black people don't work hard. Shit. The ones I know do....when they can get work that illegals aren't scarfing up) euphemisms and back door inuendo but its still here, folks. Take it from one who, like Mr. Obama, can see it from both sides of the chasim. Some strides have been made but we are still a long way from Dr. King's dream of being judged not by the color of our skin but by the content of our character. Its ok to oppose Mr. Obama in reguards to his position on the issues. I don't agree with him on lots of things . But it chapps my ass when these so called news pundits don't face facts and acknowledge that racism is still a big factor in how people vote. Only by facing a problem can we ever hope to overcome it. Lets just call it what it is.
