Our Hearts Are Broken

Howdy, Blog Pals:

I hardly know where to start.

My mind still whirls and my heart aches for all those poor babies in Connecticut who had their lives cut short by some crazy bastard with a gun. The victims were in the same age group as my little kids; Damien 10, Wednesday 8, Daisy May 8 and Jethro 7. I can't even bear to think of anything happening to those kids. I would absolutely destroy me. And I know that as hard as it would be on me, it would be a thousand times harder on the parents. My heart really goes out to those poor parents and other family members(I'm certain that they all had doting aunties too). There are now families for whom the Christmas season will no longer be joyous but a painful reminder of the day they lost their child. It's just almost too horrible to think about.
One of the most moving stories was of one of the little victims, Jack Pinto. He was a NY Giants(brother Bubba's favorite team) fan and his favorite player was Victor Cruz. Upon hearing this, Mr. Cruz wrote on his game cleats "Jack Pinto-My Hero" and wore them in their game Sunday. He also called the family and consoled them. Aparently not all NFL stars are shallow, self centered, show boating, steroid encrusted criminals.
And naturally, the gun control issue is being dragged out. It is not the guns that are to blame, it is the looneys to get them. They closed all the booby hatches and let all the boobies out. They need to pass legislation to allow doctors, judges etc. to confine these whack jobs so that they don't have access to weapons and victims. We need nut control not gun control. But then we have the double edged sword, anyone who acts just a little bit off might be chucked into the laughing academy and we have people turning in rich Uncle Fred who is harmless but thinks he's Ethel Mermam in order to get control of his loot. I dunno what the ultimate solution is but its not more gun control laws. This only makes it more difficult for the law abiding to exercise their second amendment rights. Psychotic loosers will always be able to get their hands on firearms no matter how many or how draconian the laws are that are on the books. As someone once said, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. And I agree with that. I know many will disagree but I respect that. This is still America and we still have the right to our opinion....so far.

Ah, well......I go now to try and get my mind off this sensless tragedy. Have a good week, everyone. And hold the children in your life just a little closer, a little tighter.

That same day, a man wielding a knife walked into a school in China and attacked 19 children. While many of them survived, it does prove that the issue is not guns but deranged minds. (I still advocate for gun control.) I will never understand how this can happen.

I hope these recent events get things moving to better mental health care. I saw a common thread between this shooter and the one in Aurora - both were seeing psych counselors at school, but then they left school, and the counselors closed the file - not their problem any more.

All of us who have little ones to cherish will hold them a little closer.
I am very upset.

This tragedy will leave it's mark for a long time on all of us. I don't know what the answer is. I have a 'crazy' daughter, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. People with mental disorders do many things which are hard to predict, and even harder to control. One thing was always sure for us, we never wanted a gun in the house. Not for any reason!

having an unregisterd gun here is illegal but the bikie gangs and other crooks don't care . 1998 there was a shooting in Tasmania a state of ours where 37 were shot dead and 36 wounded , the prime minister passed legislation to allow all fire arms to be bought back when surrended at police stations , cost the govenment heaps. also brought in very strict laws for those who got an exception, farmers members of gun clubs etc. no shooting on a large scale since.
the bikies still shoot one another

Yes,tragic is not the word here and cannot think at this time for another.
I have been thinking of the incident every day and keep telling myself why?
Mental illness is all around us.Yes,I know that Adam was sick, but that is not going to make me feel better. He is a whacko, way beyond.I hate the stare of his look and glad that he is gone.
The mother, why all the weapon in the house. All she need is a hand gun for protection if needed.
She is just as guilty as Adam.

Do I sound pissed.Yes,I am and still.

I agree wholeheartedly with you! crazy people will always find a way to get a gun, so gun control won't help one bit.
