Tips for a Better Life

When people email me things like this, I usually ignore them and delete them. This one, however, caught my eye. Even though some of these things are cliche, there is more than a kernel of truth in most of them. I was particularly impressed with #'s 9, 10, 17 & 18.
As far as #1 is concerned, it may sound hokey, but the part about smiling is true. (Laughter releases endorphins in your brain, even if you're laughing at nothing. Edorphins put you in a good mood.)
Anyway, without further ado, here they are. Do with them what you will, and have a GREAT weekend. (I know I will! Mary and I have the play to do again this weekend!)

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.

3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.'

4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

12. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

14. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

17. Forgive everyone for everything. Forgive yourself, too.

18. What other people think of you is none of your business.

19. GOD heals almost everything.

20. However good or bad a situation is it will change.

21. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick.
Your friends will. Stay in touch!!!

22. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

23. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

24, Pray for others.

This is the one that was the hardest to learn, and the one that changed my life -

Good list Jim. Thanks for posting it. Some days my goal will be to enjoy the day.

What an awesome list! I agree with every single one and like to think I do most of them too. I know when disaster happens I always ask, "In a year from now, who will even remember?" It's so easy to dwell on own little mistakes, meanwhile, everyone else in the world is only paying attention to their own little mistakes too... they usually don't remember yours.

Well, I loved that!

We could add "listen to music" and "learn something new". Those help me.

I like them ALL! I don't walk every day, but I make up for it by sitting in silence for longer than ten minutes each day.

#399: Never buy any food item your grandmother wouldn't recognize, particularly if it comes in a box.

Number 13 has been my stumbling block all my life because I was left with questions and no answers.

These are very good things to remember and apply to our daily living.

I'm printing it and taping it to the bathroom mirror...excellent!

Great list. #23 is something I need to try.

I really like all of these and they are the real key to good health. I always greet people with the "how are you are doing" and when they say okay, I always respond with "just okay"...I've been amazed at the following responses to that question. If you can make people smile along the way, it may be their only smile of the day...you've done a great service.

These are truly great...if we chose an authentic life...they're mandatory

All are great but sooo hard to follow...

If my life was any better I couldn't handle it--I learned most of these lessons in 1972!!

I've also heard #12 as: "I don't have to make you wrong for me to be right". Put yet another way, we each have a right to our opinion. To go a bit deeper, if we don't identify *ourselves* with superficial issues, there is no need to argue at all. Anyway, enjoy the play!

#13 is a hard lesson to learn. I know.
