What Ya Gonna Do?

What ya gonna do?
Have you ever noticed that the good old days were when you were a kid? It doesn’t seem to matter if you were born in 1950 or 1980 those were the good old days. Scary huh?
I guess that means that 40 years from now a child born today will be posting on a blog site about those simpler times back in 2008. Those wonderful days of $3.50 a gallon gas and when a loaf of bread was only a $1.19.
Kinda makes you wonder-did we ever have “good old days”? We tend to forget the bad things that happened as we grow older. Or at least we minimize them.
One thing we do have now is information, sometimes (in my opinion) way to much information way to fast. We don’t get the whole story. What we do get is a 30 second sound bit and maybe some video. We see it all now or at least what the electronic and paper media thinks we need.
Just some random thoughts

I think you're right on this. The other day my daughter said, "Back in the day..." I laughed and told her that she didn't have the right to say that phrase until she was at least 30. lol

I think the "good old days" are when your parents paid the bills and you didn't have to worry about anything

I think everyone has those "remember when" moments. Times change and we all change with it...

They certainly won't have any "simpler times" to reflect on. everything they are growing up with things that are very complicated

After reading Jondude's blog about the 3tril debt, and wondering how the heck our kid's generation will be impacted by the economy, etc... I pine for the good 'ol days. Like Looserobe's comment, hah! I've become my mother, my grandmother, and Methuselah's mother.

I remember the good old days. I was walking with my dad in a grocery store and bread was about .35 a loaf, he said, "I believe that someday bread will cost $1.00." I looked at him and said, "No way, dad!" And I meant it. Good grief, what's it going to cost in 20 years!

yep, especially music. my parents called my music "crap" and just the other day I was saying the same thing to one of my nephews. hopefully, they won't be boring their children with tales of walking three miles to school, barefoot in snow, uphill both ways.

You are right. We do idealize the past; but for most of us, our youth was the best time of our lives--we just didn't realize it, at the time.

I remember when I reached the age when I thought...OMG, I've become my father. Now, here I am, thinking...OMG!!! I've become my grandfather!!!

Hey G... if you can find a loaf of bread that cheap, nail a few for Jondude. Bread (Wonder) is over two buck a loaf here.

Every generation has its "good old days", and the old saying "... the kids today...." Nothing new, nothing changes, just the superficial stuff. I try to remember now how I used to occupy my "spare" time before the Internet. What did I do to feel connected to the human race? I'm not sure I was connected all that well, not like I have been for the past several years. Hard to imagine how life will be in 50 years. Probably an implant connected to a mainframe will do most everything people need done... I'd like to stay around and find out, but ah... oh well...
