Young Gays, Homeless Kids, Doctors, Etc.

You
think you have it bad with your illnesses, petty quarrels, not being
able to afford a certain 'toy', etc? I am watching a documentary about
homeless kids--1 out of 50--in Orange County. I am watching a scene
where 4 of them are playing in a dumpster and one just found a thrown
out gun and is playing with it. You feel sorry for yourself? You don't
have everything? These kids have nothing--they live in 'homeless motels'
because their mother and/or father can afford to pay a week at a time.
See "The Motel Kids Of Orange County" if you think you are deprived!

At a recent meeting of gay activists--you know we have to get that agenda through that nongays think we have--the main point of discussion was the lack of young
people participating in the fight for Equal Rights for Gays. It was
brought up that they were more interested in going to bars, cruising on
the Internet, dating, finding the love of their lives, etc., just the
things normal 20 year olds do but they don't find the time for activism that the previous
generations did. Do they think the Rights they enjoy, take for granted,
just came out of thin air? Workshops are being planned to get them
involved even if it is only an hour a week. More about that in a future
blog.

Another dismaying thing is how little the current gay generation knows about gay history in the 20th century and the people who made it. There will be a series about gay
writers, and the books they wrote, that I will post every now and then. Everyone is welcome to read them.

Another
blog I want to do is about the regrets that old people have--things
they wish they had done instead of putting off that they never did do
and can't/won't do now because, yes, it is too late and if you say, "It
is never too late," you have no idea what you are talking about. I have
very few regrets as I always did what I wanted to do when I wanted to do
it without worrying about the consequences but paying them when they
came due. More about that soon.

One
more doctor appointment--the make up nuclear stress test that the heart
doctor's receptionist messed up--and I am through for another year with doctors and have a clean bill of health for a 75 year old man--and, for those who care, no senility here!!! LOL

Great that you have a clean bill of health, Martin. Do you think the young gays may become more active after they mature a bit? Young people, gay or straight, are pretty self-centered, I think.

The activists of the past, that is.

Most of them are leading quiet Middle Class lives.

We keep hearing (about every generation) how they are different, more active, more tolerant and they are all the same--where are the Vietnam protesters, the women who burned their bras, the ones who marched on Washington and in the South--where are today's activists????
