It
was like walking into a candy store but even better because you have
ice cream to put under the candy! When you walk into Yo Mama's ice cream
shop in the Village Store, in a small area off the beach that not even
too many natives know about, you are almost overwhelmed by the smell of
all kinds of popcorn, the aroma of ice cream toppings and the many
varieties of ice cream.
As
we approached the ice cream station the woman behind the counter
started yelling at me, "No pictures. We don't allow pictures taken of
our product!" She was neither quiet or polite about it and I find that
in this day of cell phones that can take pictures without anyone
noticing it was pretty rude of her. In addition, from their web site,
you know there have been plenty of pictures taken but a rude clerk
wasn't going to stop me from eating ice cream.
The
whole gimmick is that they put your ice cream, however many balls of
whichever flavors you want, in a bowl, than hand it over to you and you
add whatever, and as much, toppings as you want. At the end the bowl is
weighed and you pay 49 cents an ounce. I never did ask or find out why
they make all the cones!
You have a
choice of a dozen different flavors with nothing so mundane as plain
chocolate or vanilla ice cream and they are all made in house. The
toppings range from sprinkles to coconut to chips of all kinds, cookie
crumbs and anything else you can think of plus hot fudge, chocolate
syrup and/or whipped cream. After the bowl is weighed, and paid for, you
pick one of the colorful spoons and you are off to Heaven!!!
I had a 2-4-1 coupon, naturally, and Allen volunteered to pay so who was I to say, "No"? His was $6.35 and mine $3.15 (His coconut was heavy!)
